Position Summary:
Florida Atlantic University is seeking an Assistant Director, Student Financial Aid Compliance & Verification - Boca Raton, FL
The Assistant Director, Student Financial Aid Compliance & Verification serves as FAU’s key resource for education and training on regulations and compliance processes related to student financial aid.
Serves as Project Coordinator for the Office of Student Financial Aid by performing the following duties:
Summary of Responsibilities:
Oversees document imaging system conversion for paper files with adherence to Federal & State document retention policies.
Oversees the Simplified FAFSA regulatory changes.
Formalizes the financial aid office internal project request process in partnership with in-house technical team.
Develops a system of screening new potential projects by conducting a risk assessment, evaluating resources, and determining scheduling priority.
Manages and oversees coordinator for verification and the verification process.
Manages all aspects of financial aid compliance issues as stated below:
Assures regulatory compliance pertaining to federal and state student aid programs through provision of thorough and timely training and development and implementation of appropriate processes and procedures.
Remains current on all federal and institutional regulations.
Identifies potential areas of vulnerability and risk.
Establishes standards and implements procedures to monitor and identify noncompliance with applicable rules and regulations.
Monitors federal notices of proposed rulemaking for financial aid.
Reviews and interprets rules impacting FAU and prepares responses where appropriate.
Coordinates audit activities with auditors and executes audit plans.
Conducts regular file reviews and coordinates findings with appropriate stakeholders.
Coordinates training of Office of Financial Aid staff and other relevant colleagues through workshops and webinars on federal and institutional financial aid requirements.
Monitors FAU Financial Aid website, publications, and other communications for compliance with FAU financial aid policies and procedures.
Participates in the review process for all materials disseminated to members of the University community related to federal aid and education financing.
Develops and maintains financial aid compliance training manual and handbook for the office.
Maintains compliance engine which includes the former “self-evaluation guide” published by the National Association of Student Financial Aid (NASFAA).
Updates and reviews policies and procedures as necessary; may use NASFAA policies & procedures builder.
Performs monthly verification audits, monthly Satisfactory Academic Progress appeal audits, and monthly manual grant insertion audits.
Reviews monthly disbursement override report audit.
Reviews and updates consumer information.
Security, approval, and monitoring access to the Financial Aid Systems Records.
Serves as liaison for Title IV compliance with the General Counsel, the University Information Security Officer, Financial Affairs, Academic Affairs, and Student Affairs.
Serves as a compliance communication primary contact.
Leads A-133 Audit.
Leads State, Federal, and NCAA Audits.
Conducts internal monthly audits and controls.
Writes and maintains policies and procedures.
Maintains participation agreement in Title IV funds.
Assists with SACSCOC accreditation.
Responsible for FERPA/HIPAA compliance within the department.
Conducts training for all aspects of regulatory compliance within the department.
Serves on state, regional, and national committees, as well as ad hoc policy review groups.
Monitors and develops strategies for legislative and regulatory changes at the state, federal, and BOG level.
Assists leadership with various projects.
Serves as back-up support for customer service.
SAP recheck report - review and evaluate grade changes.
