Assist with the delivery of patient care and maintenance of unit environmental standards under the supervision of a licensed nurse..
Department Summary
We care for critically ill adult patients ranging in age from 18 years and older who are being treated for Acute Respiratory Failure, Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS), Multisystem Organ System Failure, Sepsis, Drug Overdoses, Gastrointestinal Bleeds, Diabetic Ketoacidosis, Hypertensive Crisis, Acute/Chronic Renal Failure, and Liver Failure/Cirrhosis. Our patients are unique because of the variety of patients admitted to the MICU which allows for the development of critical thinking and intensive care assessment skills.
Shifts Alternate Between:
Day Shift - 6:45 am - 7:15 pm
Night Shift - 6:45 pm - 7:15 am
PRN staff are required to work a minimum four 12-hour shifts every six weeks; however, candidates must commit to a full-time orientation period (three 12-hour shifts per week) for the first 4 weeks of employment.
Care Partner Position Qualifications:
High School Diploma or GED (or equivalent experience) AND one of the following:
Current enrollment in a program of professional nursing RN and successful completion of the first semester of nursing school to include nursing fundamentals clinical, or
Graduation from a Nursing Assistant or Aide Training Program within the past year (the certification is not mandatory, but a certificate of completion is necessary), or
Minimum of one year of previous (and within the past two years) experience as a care partner or nursing assistant/patient care technician.
*Hospital and/or acute care experience preferred.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Assist with the delivery of patient care and maintenance of unit environmental standards under the supervision of a licensed nurse.
• Assists with day to day delivery of patient care.
• Facilitates efficient and safe patient care and flow by following work area standards.
• Serves as a liaison for communication and education of patient and family needs.
• Supports unit operations and patient flow by maintaining supplies, equipment and unit environmental standards.

TECHNICAL CAPABILITIES
• Environment of Care (Fundamental Awareness): Has limited experience or training working with set up and maintenance of patient exam rooms, supplies and equipment.
• Care Partner Patient Documentation (Fundamental Awareness): Has limited experience or training working with clinical applications for patient documentation.
• Clinical Competencies (Novice): Demonstrates sufficient fundamental proficiency to assist and perform clinical care including but not limited to vital signs, phlebotomy, specimen collection, medication administration and point of care testing as directed by unit standards.
• Planning & Organizing (Fundamental Awareness): Demonstrates ability to anticipate basic resource needs, identify discrete tasks, set priorities, define dependencies, schedule activities, meet deadlines, and organize work for own assignments and responsibilities. Appropriately matches equipment, and capital resources to task demands. Prepares and presents clear and accurate status reports on projects and assignments.
