Lunar Outpost
is seeking an experienced
Staff Flight Engineer to
help in planning, preparation, and execution of
Lunar Terrain Vehicle (LTV) missions in support of NASA’s Artemis program.
The Staff Flight Engineer is responsible for
development, integration, test, and execution of all LTV mission planning, preparation, and mission execution operations products and processes. Frequent interactions with NASA FOD and Lunar Outpost
LTV Program personnel are required. The candidate will be required to give technical and high-level presentations to a variety of panels and forums.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop LTV
ground and flight procedures and operational documentation - Develop and execute Flight Plans according to programmatic mission requirements
- Develop Flight Rules to ensure crew and vehicle safety
- Support
planning of Lunar Outpost portions of Artemis missions through coordination with NASA Flight Operations Directorate personnel, Lunar Outpost
LTV IPTs, technical discipline experts, the NASA Astronaut Office, safety organizations, and other mission-specific stakeholders
- Successfully complete training and skill certification as an LTV flight controller and provide real-time operations support to LTV ops portions of Artemis missions
- Make decisions during the LTV ops portions of Artemis missions to manage vehicle
and ground resources to ensure crew and vehicle safety and mission success in coordination with the NASA FOD Artemis Flight Director, other FOD personnel, and other LTV flight controllers
- Develop responses to contingency situations in the areas of crew and vehicle systems, vehicle dynamics, and ground systems to resolve malfunctions and restore the mission to a normal operational state
- Take a leadership role in the initial development of all LTV-related plan-train-fly processes for Artemis mission support
- Support development of MCC console configuration and console tool development activities in coordination with Mission Systems personnel
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree with a major in Engineering, Physical Science, Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science, or other fields of physical science
- Candidates must have at least 5+ years of experience in spaceflight mission operations
- Candidates must be able to work and lead in a collaborative environment with multi-disciplinary engineering and mission operations teams
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, leadership, teamwork, technical, and administrative skills are mandatory
- Candidate should be a self-starter who excels in a dynamic environment that requires him/her to work effectively both alone and as part of a team
- Position will periodically require working on nights, weekends, and holidays during Artemis mission operations
