Your Role as an RN in Behavioral Health

As a Behavioral Health RN , you’ll provide direct nursing care to patients across all age groups—children, adolescents, adults, and geriatric patients—in newly renovated units. Here’s what you’ll do:

• Patient Care:

  • Administer prescribed medications and monitor their effects.
  • Perform wound care, change dressings, and maintain infection control protocols.
  • Monitor vital signs and assess patients’ physical and mental health status.

• Documentation & Communication:

  • Accurately document patient conditions, treatments, and progress using computerized systems.
  • Communicate patient updates to physicians, therapists, and other members of the healthcare team.

• Care Coordination:

  • Serve as the primary coordinator of care, ensuring seamless collaboration among multidisciplinary teams.
  • Develop and implement individualized care plans tailored to each patient’s needs.

• Crisis Management:

  • Utilize Nonviolent Crisis Intervention techniques to de-escalate situations and maintain a safe environment.
  • Respond promptly to emergencies and provide immediate care as needed.

• Discharge Planning:

  • Coordinate discharge planning with healthcare team members to ensure a smooth transition to outpatient or community-based care.
  • Educate patients and families on post-discharge care and resources.

• Team Collaboration:

  • Participate in team meetings, training sessions, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Mentor and support new team members to foster a collaborative work environment.

What We Offer

• Competitive Pay: $31.55–$45.07/hour, based on experience.
• Shift Differentials:
  • $6/hour night differential (weekdays) and $7/hour weekend nights.
  • $5/hour weekend day differential.

Who We’re Looking For

To succeed in this role, you’ll need:

• Experience: Prior behavioral health experience preferred; LTAC candidates interested in behavioral health are encouraged to apply.
• Education: Nursing diploma or degree required.
• Certifications: Current RN license in Virginia; Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS) and Nonviolent Crisis Intervention certifications required (must be obtained within 30–60 days of hire).
• Skills: Strong communication, critical thinking, and crisis management skills.
