Job Title:

Director of Development - Hospitals

Job Summary:

Primarily responsible for advancing a donor portfolio of principal gift prospects and donors in the $50,000 -- $1,000,000+ gift range across various departments within the adult and pediatric hospitals. Responsible for working with the Executive Director of Development and Director of Principal Gifts to develop, implement, and track strategic philanthropic direction. Supervise direct fundraising staff within the development office who are responsible for gifts across specified constituencies (Children’s of Mississippi, Adult Hospital, and Clinical). Support the launch and growth of new programs and systems that elevate the profile and philanthropic success of UMMC's development program.

Education & Experience

Education and Experience Required:

 Bachelor's degree and five (5) years of experience in fundraising, development, or donor relations, including two (2) years in a supervisory role.

Preferred Qualifications:

Master’s degree or higher preferred.

Ability to build effective, collaborative relationships internally with departments, program staff, physicians, and other internal constituents. Proven record of teambuilding and management. Ability to learn appropriate levels of information about a broad range of health disciplines and interdisciplinary areas and translate that knowledge to external philanthropic support and the development of relationships through an advisory board or similar groups. Superior writing skills: the ability to develop and edit clear, articulate, grammatically correct, persuasive, donor communications. Grasp of the complexities of a medical center environment, its function, and mission. Knowledge of raiser's edge or advance database. Ability to think critically and assess processes and workflow. Ability to maintain confidentiality on behalf of philanthropic donors and medical center colleagues. Understanding of major issues and trends in healthcare and philanthropy. Outstanding organizational, project management, and time management skills.
