GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Work is performed with independence under the supervision of the Library Circulation Manager; does related work as required.
Must be able to work a flexible schedule involving days, evenings and a weekend rotation. The weekend rotation includes Saturday and Sunday hours.
Although this position is based at the East Regional Library, the person in this position may be asked to work at other Durham County Library locations.
This position is eligible for pro-rated benefits.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provides excellent customer service in a team-based environment in the East Regional Library Circulation Unit.
- Shares in the responsibility for coverage of the Circulation Desk.
- Works at information desk as part of cross-scheduling training, as assigned.
- Supports library circulation functions such as checking items in and out, daily intake and delivery of library materials, pulling holds, shelving, stocking displays, library notices, fee collection, and customer accounts.
- Registers new borrowers and resolves issues related to library accounts.
- Assists with money handling to include, but not limited to, daily revenue reports, cash management reports, and reconciling cash register.
- Assists with monitoring and answering LibAnswers/LibChat.
- Performs related tasks as required or requested.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- General knowledge of library principles, methods, materials, and practices.
- General knowledge of theory and objectives of a public library system.
- Skill with library technology.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with library employees and library patrons.
- Ability to use personal computers and word processing software and email.
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Ability to understand and interpret library rules, policies, and procedures.
- Ability to use a variety of office equipment.
- Ability to work pleasantly and effectively with people of all ages.
- Commitment to excellence in internal and external customer service.
- Basic computer skills.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- High School graduation or GED equivalent
- One (1) year of customer service, clerical support or related experi
