RATE OF PAY/SALARY: $20 per hour

The Optometric Technician Support Specialist will provide quality patient care in the department within their scope of practice (as directed by the Optometrist and Practice Manager) and perform general patient registration responsibilities, as well as general office duties to support the operations of the department.
Under the supervision of the Optometrist
- Perform screening procedures and documentation in accordance with CORNERSTONE policies and procedures.
- Identify potential patient problems and alert Provider.
- Participates in CORNERSTONE’s Care Team Model including but not limited to:
- Participates in Pre-Visit Planning (see Pre-Visit Planning Policy)
- Participates care team huddles/communication
- Assists with population management activities for assigned patient panel
- Directs and participates in quality improvement activities within the care team and department.
- Refer phone and walk-in triage to Optometrist
- Strictly adhere to safe nursing practice including but not limited to Infection Control, National Patient Safety Goals and Waived Testing set forth by CORNERSTONE policy and incompliance with Joint Commission and OSHA.
- Assist providers with in-office procedures and exams as needed.
- Maintain a clean and safe environment for the patient, including stacking exam rooms with appropriate supplies.
- Make recommendations to supervisors for the improvement of health care for all patients.
- Be familiar with and adhere to all clinical, administrative, and general policies and procedures as outlined in the CORNERSTONE Policy and Procedure Manual and Employee Handbook.
- Attend and participate in monthly department, All Staff and other required meetings.
- Maintain confidentiality of all aspects of CORNERSTONE including, but not limited to, patient confidentiality, financials, and employee relations.
Under the supervision of the Practice Manager
- Always demonstrates excellent customer service skills; greets all patients promptly upon entering the patient waiting area, responds promptly and appropriately to their request.
- Uses appropriate phone etiquette, treating all callers with courtesy and respect. Is attentive to all callers placed on hold and diligently monitors time spent on hold.
- Monitors the patient waiting area and ensures that it is kept clean and orderly.
- Helps to registers patients and collects required documentation as per Cornerstone policies and procedures when needed.
- Verifies all demographic and insurance information in the practice management system before printing the encounter and updates if necessary.
- Verifies insurance eligibility and PCP for each patient at every visit and accurately enters info into the practice management system. Is knowledgeable about different types of insurance and their general rules (i.e. vison vs medical, PPO/HMO and PCP/referral rules)
- Collects copayments and visit payments at each visit at the time of registration.
- Schedules appointments, changes appointments and cancels appointments as needed.
- Verifies scheduled appointments when a patient presents as an appointment/walk in to ensure that they still want/need other scheduled appointments.
- Provides patients with information regarding specialty referrals and assists with making appointments as needed.
- Arrange patient transportation, as needed.
- Monitors DNKA’s on a daily basis; logs all DNKA’s and sends appropriate notification to the patient notifying them that they have missed their appointment.
