Collins Aerospace is one of the world’s largest suppliers of technologically advanced aerospace and defense products. ISR & Space Systems is a business unit within Collins and our products reside in deep space, low earth orbit, undersea and on the ground. We are also a major supplier to international space programs. The ISR & Space Systems business has contributed to significant advances in ground, air, space and imaging technology for over 85 years. Within ISR & Space Systems we design and manufacture Environmental Control and Life Support Systems on the International Space Station, including the space suit, and undersea in submarines.

ISR & Space Systems Houston is looking for a candidate for its Manufacturing Operations Organization. The position is the focal point for the execution of daily activities to deliver high quality, highly engineered development and production hardware on-time to its customers. The selected candidate will be responsible for leading the Manufacturing team in tasks ranging from requirements planning through the manufacturing and shipment of deliverables in support of NASA and DoD Programs. Applicants must exhibit a high degree of initiative and sound judgment, working independently and as a member of an Integrated Product Team. It is essential the individual be capable of adapting to changing conditions and work cooperatively in a team environment.

This position will work onsite daily at Johnson Space Center (JSC).

What You Will Do

  • Leads team of electrical, mechanical, and test technicians
  • Support manufacturing and testing of space flight hardware through build, test, and delivery activities
  • Ensures all quality related items for assigned work cells are completed and documented to meet established quality standards
  • Coordinates activities for materials and logistics problem resolution of assigned work cell(s) to ensure availability of materials and smooth operations
  • Prepare annual operating budgets for the team
  • Plan and forecast manpower requirements to support the program and business plans
  • Monitor daily/weekly/monthly team WIP
  • Implement improvement initiatives with the function and program levels
  • Oversee training and development, performance appraisals, health and safety, and department productivity
  • Promote ACE (Lean) activities as a form of continuous improvement
  • Monitor compliance with company policies and procedures
  • Stand in as Operations Manager as required
  • Maintain program dashboard metrics for the lab/manufacturing areas

  • Supporting crew training and mission support for EVAs

Qualifications You Must Have

  • Typically requires a University Degree and minimum 8 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years of experience
  • 5 Years experience with people management skills including delegation, promoting teamwork, and performance management
  • Experience with Lean and ACE / Continuous Improvement
  • Experience in Project Leadership
  • Experience and understanding of NASA internal procedures

Qualifications We Prefer

  • Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of related experience in Operations,  Manufacturing, or Engineering 
  • Self-starter with a positive attitude who can work at setting priorities while multi-tasking to meet various deadlines on short notice
  • Strong planning and organizational skills with ability to be adaptable to changing priorities and assignments
  • Ability to communicate effectively and persuasively, verbally and in writing, to all organizational levels and cross-functional groups
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
  • Ability to effectively work cross-functionally and influence, advise and direct members outside the direct reporting structure to perform job requirements and meet deadlines
