These core areas are integral to successful clinical practice. The Resident will be subject to other clinical performance assessments outlined by the residency curriculum and developed in accordance to standards established by the American Board of Physical Therapy Residency and Fellowship Education (ABPTRFE).
Clinical Practice consists of patient/family orientation, evaluations, assessments, observations, treatment procedures, training, interventions, educational sessions, and activity counseling, conducted as part of a team approach or as a single practitioner. The resident will practice in several specialty practice areas within the Acute Care Setting as well as observational experience both within and outside the physical therapy setting.

Site of care may be the patient care unit, designated team or skill-classified treatment areas (functional and diagnosis specific treatment site or therapeutic exercise areas), other locations within the medical center, or in the community.
*Professionals use a wide variety of approaches to evaluation and treatment, consistent with the individual needs of persons served, their families, and caregivers. Approaches include: "salient factors" - those key issues that must be addressed to achieve the established discharge plan; use of clinical pathways, algorithms, and clinical guidelines; use of specific protocols to address component functions or skills established within the Rehabilitation Plan of Care (as applicable to venue of care). Each practitioner within the patient care team is responsible for assuring continuity of care among team members.
*Education/training and support sessions are as important as sessions that focus on physical or other specified skills.
*Clinical practice for licensed professionals also includes the supervision of licensed support staff and entry-level students as assigned. Patient care is delegated in accordance with department policy, which reflects the laws and rules of applicable state practice act
