SGA provides a wide range of social services in some of Chicago's most challenged and consistently underserved communities and creates long-term and community-wide change. The ICIRR Immigrant Family Resource Program goal is to ensure low-income immigrant families and other limited-English speaking persons can thrive by reducing barriers when seeking public benefits (nutritional, medical, housing, psychological, childcare, employment), as well as the cash support they need for proper health, well-being, and economic self-sufficiency. 

 

  • Create goal-planning process, short-term and long-term, and service plan to promote family well-being, and find new strategies to address new needs.
  • Responsible for connecting qualified families with receiving and enrolling in public assistance such as through IDHS benefits and community resources.
  • Collect resources on recreational activities, housing, food, clothing, school programs, vocational opportunities or services, providers to teach life skills, and relevant mental health services
  • Assists client to develop natural resources and contact social support networks.
  • Provide case management services through one-on-one meetings with families to determine and meet their needs.
  • Assist families in applying for public benefits and services, interpretations may be needed.
  • Verbal or electronic translations of brochures, forms, and application instructions, as required, to access services
  • Review to ensure that all eligibility requirements are met, including uploading required documentation
  • Conduct community education about public benefits available to immigrants in IL. Outreach to potential eligible participants and their landlords.
  • Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
  • Complete any public benefit and resource application, including SNAP, MEDICAID, TANF, and advocate for client needs
  • Develop and maintain relationships with IDHS staff
  • Empower clients to manage their IDHS cases through IDHS
  • Receive IDHS mails, follow up with clients.
  • Provide information and referrals to internal and external resources
  • Participate in outreach to ensure IFRP services are known throughout the community
  • Conduct recruitment for families in targeted communities to promote program needs 
  • Develop and implement community outreach activities geared at increasing knowledge of the program. 
  • Support outreach events, referral systems, and programs facilitated by other departments within agency. 
  • Maintain detailed record of activities to regularly track impact of outreach efforts and to facilitate appropriate reports to funders and government agencies. 
  • Maintain accuracy of school events and client files 
  • Establish MOUs with community partners to create a referral/linkage system for clients enrolled in the program.
  • Work in collaboration with IDHS and All Chicago, Cook County, and State of Illinois to identify and cultivate relationships with local community resources.
  • Other Duties as assigned


Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE JOB

Education:

  • High School Diploma

Experience:

  • Experience working with both mothers, fathers and families.
  • Experience working with at-risk youth; Restorative Justice, Diversion and Violence Reduction
  • Experience in case management.

  • Sensitivity to cultural diversity is required. Ability to communicate and cooperate with diverse families, various professionals and community groups. 
  • Strong ability to network and develop professional partnerships.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including occasional evenings & weekends.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of clients or employees or the organization.
  • Exercises discretion and independent judgment in executing tasks.

KEY COMPETENCIES

  • Competent in Microsoft Office tools and inputting services in an online database.
  • Bilingual/Bicultural in English and Spanish preferred but not required.
  • Valid Driver’s License and Automobile Insurance. 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be able to transport oneself to and from home visits.
  • Occasionally ascends/descends stairs.
  • Constantly positions oneself to assist children during activities.
  • Frequently moves desks, chairs, tables, easels, and children's toys. 
  • At times may be required to lift up to 25 lbs. for various classrooms and event’s needs. 
  • Frequently moves in outdoor weather
