Job Overview
The Director of Physical Security Systems is responsible for the research, development, implementation, execution, and maintenance of Georgetown’s centralized Physical Security which includes Physical Access Control System, Intrusion Detection System, and Electronic Key and Lock Systems. They also have project/resource management responsibilities for these systems.
Additionally, they are responsible for advising the Director of Operational Technology Security, researching new technologies, ensuring all systems are operational, updating documentation, and providing support where applicable.
The Director manages services that are for the daily business tasks the University must accomplish and have viable alternatives in case of failure. Examples of these services are access to parking lots, resident halls, and dining, as well as after-hours access to academic and administrative spaces; and alternatives successfully used to mitigate failures include coordination with Facilities, Georgetown University Police Department (GUPD), and Vendor Point of Sale systems to ensure services are available until repair is complete.
One of the Director’s key duties is the alignment of engineering efforts with the missions of the university and its constituents. To ensure the alignment, the Director is responsible for liaison with the leadership of key areas within the University, as well as with vendors and peer institutions as appropriate. As well, the Manager has purview over a wide and diverse set of responsibilities – including but not limited to the University’s ability to positively identify the members of its community, control physical access to sensitive areas, and enable the processing of financial transactions.
The Director’s duties also entail an “on-call” component in which team members rotate through to provide support for the applications they manage outside of the regular business hours.
Work Interactions
Reporting directly to the Director of Operational Technology Security, the Director of Physical Security Systems is responsible for the management of the systems that control the university’s physical security systems, financial transaction hardware, middleware, and application stacks.

Requirements and Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
- At least 10 years of relevant technology management experience
- Experience in higher education or related industry
- A strong knowledge of door access control and administrative systems and intrusion detection
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Experience working in a team environment
- Demonstrated ability to ensure quality of work force through the development and implementation of standards and documentation as well as professional development plans
- A commitment to service and quality, and the ability to integrate these concepts into the unit culture.
- Demonstrated strong project/personnel management and interpersonal skills
- Experience in at least two of the following: integrating vendor solutions, distributed processing, user interface and experience management, identity management, and/or project management.
- Experience in system upgrades and migrations
Preferred Qualification
ASIS International Physical Security Professional or similar certification
