We sat down with <a href="https://www.linkedin.com/in/gabriel-craciun-0671401b/">Gabriel Crăciun</a>, who leads the Cloud Infrastructure Engineering team, to learn more about his team and this role that he’s hiring for.<br/>Q: Gabi, can you briefly walk us through what the Cloud Infrastructure team do and how your work fits into the wider ecosystem?I would say our core responsibility as a Cloud Infrastructure team consists in designing and deploying automation solutions for 8x8 environments, but equally challenging our current infrastructure and improving it.<br/>Q: Oh, that sounds really interesting. And how do you do that?Well, we do that in various ways, but our main goal as a team is to make sure we use DevOps best practices to build low maintenance, secure environments. From a technical standpoint, we focus on writing tools and services to make our systems secure, scalable and efficient (we use Python, Go and other languages), and on delivering Ansible playbooks and Terraform modules for resilient architectures.<br/>Q: I see. What about this role, can you give us an overview of what this team member will be responsible for?This is a highly technical position, so we’re looking for someone with a strong background in automation and good knowledge of systems configuration management to take ownership of multiple Cloudflare accounts and automate configuration, manage and automate a fleet of load balancers (e.g. F5, Citrix), and implement CI/CD.<br/>Q: And what tools do you use?We use some of the latest tech, but to give you a flavor and be a bit more specific - on the CI/CD side we work with Kubernetes, ArgoCD, Atlantis, Jenkins and Git, while on the observability side we use tools like Prometheus and Grafana - so we’re looking for someone with technical expertise and proven, hands-on experience using such tools.<br/>Q: Speaking of experience, what kind of skills should someone have to succeed in this role?Someone with a background in DevOps, SRE or System Administration (ideally in a Linux environment), hands-on experience with creating automated solutions, and a good understanding of IT security and networking concepts (like DNS, LoadBalancers, VPN, Proxies, Firewalls, HTTP/S etc.) would be a perfect match. Additionally, we’d like someone who has good scripting abilities (whether using Python, Go, Bash or other scripting languages), who’s curious about everything related to automation and keeps updated with new technologies.<br/>Q: Anything else that would make a difference and benefit someone in this role?Well, since you’re asking - any experience with Cloud computing, containers (e.g. Docker, Kubernetes), virtualization tools (e.g. VMWare, KVM), and secret management technologies (e.g. Vault) would be the icing on the cake.<br/>Q: Thanks Gabi.
