Job Description

In this role, you will report to the attorney responsible for coordination of litigation activities across multiple businesses in North America. You will work in a fast-paced environment, supporting the company numerous business segments. This position is focused on litigation, but will include some other responsibilities. Key job responsibilities will include:

• Manage commercial, product liability, and other litigation matters, often in coordination with outside counsel, including by providing overall strategic direction for ongoing and threatened litigation matters, overseeing discovery and preparation of pleadings and other court documents, and advising management on litigation and resolution strategies.

• Work with multiple and varies legal and business teams to resolve disputes outside of litigation, mitigate litigation risk, and ensure compliance with litigation and regulatory obligations.

• Support the development and adoption of best practices in litigation management, including the use of electronic tools and AI.

• Proactively collaborate within the legal department across the globe in the support of litigation related initiatives and objectives.

• Manage outside counsel and other external litigation professionals.

Qualifications

• J.D. from a U.S. accredited law school.
• Member of Michigan bar in good standing.
• 7+ years of experience as a litigation attorney, either in private practice or in a corporate legal department, with a focus on commercial and/or product liability litigation.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Preferred:

• Thorough understanding of the substantive and procedural aspects of litigation and arbitration proceedings in the U.S.
• Willingness to stay abreast of relevant legal decisions and regulations and proactively increase awareness and knowledge within the organization.
• Ability to collaborate with all levels of the organization and across regions.
• Ability to provide practical advice to business executives regarding litigation risk and opportunities.
