Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (Inpatient) $2500 Sign-On Bonus

Overview

The Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) I will assist the Occupational Therapists in execution of therapy programs for persons with neuromotor dysfunction (i.e. children/teens with disorders of the brain, spinal cord, and musculoskeletal system).  The COTA will assist the OTRs to deliver high quality care with goal of facilitating functional independence and occupational engagement to resume family, school and community life following the IP rehab admission.  The COTA will participate in intra-disciplinary and interdisciplinary training/clinical programs, may assist with clinical supervision of COTA students, and therapy aides, and will maintain appropriate patient records.

Responsibilities

Implements and executes established patient treatment plans, under the supervision of a licensed OT, in the areas of ADL, fine motor, visual motor, visual perceptual, play and other developmental skill areas. 

Communicates effectively with patients, families, referring physicians, and other members of the team for quality care. 

Assists OTR in re-evaluation to prepare for discharge. 

Promotes patient engagement by facilitating rapport, attention span and willingness to participate, while managing patient behavior appropriately.

Reports any changes in patient status or needs to supervising therapist on a timely basis.

Assists in splint fabrication, trains on use of adaptive equipment, and teaches components of ADL routines. 

Participates in intra-disciplinary/interdisciplinary activities and coordinates treatment goals with other team members. 

Maintains appropriate records and demonstrates ability to document treatment plans and treatment observations to primary clinician per inpatient/department/state/regulatory requirements. 

Participates in planning and execution of programs for personal and professional growth and development.

Participates regularly in supervisory relationship and documents supervision per Maryland Licensing Board regulations.

Qualifications

• *Individual must demonstrate competence across all age groups due to the diversity of the children and families served by KKI.
• *Clinical care focus is on the neonate, pediatric, and adolescent populations, as well as some adults with disabilities.
• In good standing with all regulatory agencies and licensing boards.
• CPR certification

 

EDUCATION:

• Graduate of an accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant program.
• Certificate from AOTCB with successful completion of national registration exam.
• Eligible for license to practice Occupational Therapy in the state of Maryland.

 

EXPERIENCE:

Experience in pediatrics and/or rehabilitation and treatment preferred.
