What You'll Do
Develop, plan, implement, direct, coordinate and evaluate patient care in the Emergency Department and Acute Care. Responsible for the day to day clinical operations on all nursing units at Freeman Fort Scott. Develops, implements and evaluates projects and initiatives focused on improving clinical outcomes and patient satisfaction. Collaborates with coworkers to develop and foster an effective working environment. Collaborates with other management team members to develop and foster an effective clinical climate working jointly with administration, physicians, and staff to develop the nursing departments mission, vision, values, goals, long range plans, services, and capital and operational budgets, and approve policies and procedures.
Essential Functions
Functions as a Charge or Staff Nurse if needed to help staff any of the nursing units.
Integrates and coordinates departmental services with other functional areas of the system to facilitate achievement of the department and organizational goals.
Participates with administration, the medical staff and other members of the management team in decision making structures and processes for the department and hospital.
Hires and/or terminates, supervises, develops, mentors and completes performance reviews for direct reports. Directs and guides staff in the development and implementation of goals which contribute to departmental performance.
Ensures compliance with regulatory, licensure and accreditation standards for assigned units.
Establishes and implements mechanisms to ensure effective orientation, training, and competency of departmental staff.
Establishes and implements mechanisms to monitor, evaluate and improve customer service of the department.
Designs, implements, and administers departmental patient care systems that are cost effective, enhance revenue potential, meet customer need and have a positive impact on the market position and financial objectives of the organization.
Establishes and implements mechanisms to monitor, evaluate, and improve the quality and safety of clinical services within the department.
Knowledge
Current understanding of patient care delivery, leadership, patient safety, quality improvement, and risk reduction techniques.
Expertise in clinical area of Emergency Nursing
Expertise in the areas of med/surg and pediatric nursing care
Knowledge of current theoretical approaches to delivery of patient care, leadership, management, discipline and communication.
Knowledge of leadership, management, and performance improvement.
Minimum 5 years experience in Emergency nursing

Ability to maintain effective working relationships with other staff, physicians, patients, and families.

Ability to provide nursing care for assigned patient population.

Ability to supervise staff, evaluate them, and problem solve.
Maintain competencies, skills, and regulatory requirements for assigned unit.
Make decisions independently under stress.
PICC Tip verification class completion and completion of 10 accurate confirmations in conjunction with Radiologist.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Working Conditions
Exposure to distressed patients, families or visitors.
Frequent exposure to stressful situations.
May require day, evening, and weekend work schedules.
Requires ability to work under deadlines and stressful conditions.
Sedentary, office and departmental environment; High stress; Flexible, long and sometimes irregular hours, high intensity work.
Some travel to outlying locations within the Freeman system, educational seminars and various community-related events.
Physical Demands
Requires ability to bend, squat, kneel and reach above shoulder level frequently; climbing and twisting occasionally.
