Department Overview

The ED Technician (ED Tech) serves as a member of the interdisciplinary team and is responsible for providing direct patient care under the supervision of a professional nurse. The ED Tech performs nursing care skills that have been delegated by the licensed nurse. She/he plays an integral role in the patient care experience and both directly and indirectly impacts the perception of care.

The ED Tech reports to the Clinical Nurse Manager.

Responsibilities & Requirements

Essential Functions☐ Immediately informs nursing staff of variations in established parameters of vital signs, blood glucose or other reportable findings of skills delegated by the nurse.☐ Receives and responds to appropriate delegation; does not perform skills/care that has not been delegated by a licensed nurse.☐ Appropriately labels and handles patient specimens☐ Knowledge of ED process and track boards and assists in moving patients through their encounter (example assist with tranports)☐ Demonstrates IV skills and blood☐ Demonstrates appropriate splint application☐ Demonstrates appropriate stocking and unit replenishing☐ Responsive to alerts and time sensitive patient care items.☐ Assist in obtaining patient information☐ Demonstrates appropriate documentation and timeliness

Preferred Qualifications

Minimum EducationHigh school diploma or equivalent.Passing grade on pre-employment tests.  Required Licenses[Ohio, United States] ParamedicEMT-Paramedic or EMT-Intermediate certification required in the State of Ohio  Required SkillsCPR certification
