Job Description
AECOM’s Design and Consulting Services legal department is actively seeking an experienced Assistant General Counsel for immediate employment. The successful candidate will manage and lead a team of attorneys, contract managers and paralegals tasked with assisting the LATAM Region business team on a variety of matters, including transactional work and claims handling.
This position will offer a hybrid work schedule of both in office and remote and can be based out of any AECOM office, including but not limited to: Dallas, TX; Houston, TX; Los Angeles, CA.

Responsibilities of this position will include, but not be limited to:
- Managing and leading a team of approximately six legal professionals charged with supporting the LATAM region of AECOM’s Design and Consulting Services organization.
- Supporting and collaborating with the Americas General Counsel on a variety of tasks and initiatives.
- Overseeing and managing the process for contract reviews in support of the LATAM Region’s pipeline of pursuits.
- Identifying, developing, and implementing measures that both protect the enterprise and help advance the LATAM Region’s business goals.
- Overseeing and managing outside counsel and setting clear expectations.
- Forging relationships and supporting key members of the business on a variety of tasks and initiatives.
- Supporting business development activities including cross-functional review of RFQ/RFP requirements for professional services (engineering, architecture, environmental, and other technical services), identification of risks and opportunities, and development of risk mitigation plans.
- Negotiating contractual issues (master service agreements, joint venture agreements, subcontracts, purchase orders etc.) including terms and conditions for bonds, delays and damages, penalties, insurance, contractual obligations, and interrelations with third parties.
- Communicating with clients, governmental authorities and other stakeholders.
- Providing ongoing support to the LATAM region to evaluate and resolve complex business issues and to assist in setting appropriate strategies in support of business goals.
- Ensuring implementation of and team adherence to sound contract management and risk assessment policies.
- Assisting project teams on large infrastructure programs, including notices of non-compliance, delay or other contractual issues.
- Conducting training across different functional areas on terms and conditions, corporate policies and risk mitigation.
- Preparing of reports, memoranda, correspondence, and other documents, as necessary.
- Working collaboratively with a diverse group of professionals, including the company’s executives, attorneys, risk and insurance managers, engineers, scientists and contracts staff, as well as the ability to work with attorneys for external clients and subcontractors.
- Using online databases and software tools to document work and maintain updates.
- Supporting the legal department’s goals to support diversity, equity and inclusion goals.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- BA/BS + 12 years of relevant experience as a practicing attorney or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education

- J.D. Degree from accredited law school
- Member in good standing with any U.S. state bar or the District of Columbia or acceptable foreign bar membership.
