Position Summary:
The Vice President of Clinical Applications is a senior executive role responsible for the strategic vision, implementation, optimization, and management of all clinical information systems across Orthopedic Care Partners. This individual will serve as the bridge between clinical operations, finance, and information technology to ensure technology effectively supports our orthopedic providers and care teams, enhances patient care delivery, and aligns with OCP's strategic business objectives. This leader will oversee a dedicated team and collaborate closely with executive leadership, physicians, clinicians, and operational leaders to drive digital transformation and leverage technology as a strategic asset within our specialized orthopedic environment.
Core Accountabilities & Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership & Planning:
- Develop & Execute Orthopedic Technology Strategy: Define and lead a comprehensive, forward-looking strategy for clinical applications, directly aligning with OCP's growth plans, clinical service line goals, and value-based care initiatives.
- Orthopedic Technology Roadmap: Design and maintain a 1-3-year technology roadmap focusing on orthopedic-specific needs, including advancements in EHR/EMR modules, Practice Management (PM) systems, PACS/VNA, surgical planning tools, patient-reported outcomes (PROs) platforms, and telehealth.
- Innovation & Emerging Technology: Proactively identify, evaluate, and champion emerging technologies (e.g., AI in diagnostics, robotic-assisted surgery integration, remote patient monitoring for post-operative care, orthopedic navigation systems) that can enhance orthopedic care, improve patient outcomes, and create competitive advantages.
- Digital Transformation: Lead initiatives to digitize and optimize the patient journey and clinical workflows across the orthopedic continuum of care (clinic, ASC, physical therapy).
- Executive Collaboration: Partner with C-suite executives, physician leaders, and operational directors to define technology priorities, secure buy-in, and ensure resource alignment.
- M&A Technology Integration: Develop and oversee a scalable strategy for integrating clinical applications during new practice acquisitions and de novo site launches, ensuring minimal disruption and rapid standardization.
System Implementation & Optimization:
- Platform Management: Oversee the entire lifecycle (selection, implementation, configuration, upgrading, and support) of core clinical applications, including EHR/EMR, PM, PACS, Patient Portals, RCM support systems, and HIE interfaces.
- Orthopedic Customization: Ensure clinical systems are meticulously configured and optimized for orthopedic workflows, templates, order sets, and billing/coding requirements.
- System Integration: Champion and oversee the seamless integration of disparate systems (EHR, PM, PACS, ASC systems, PT platforms, HIEs, Payer Portals) to create a unified patient record and streamline data flow.
- User Experience & Adoption: Drive initiatives to enhance system usability, clinician satisfaction, and widespread adoption through continuous feedback loops, training, and workflow optimization.
- Vendor Management: Manage key vendor relationships, negotiate contracts, and ensure adherence to Service Level Agreements (SLAs), holding partners accountable for performance and innovation.
Clinical Workflow & Process Improvement:
- Workflow Analysis & Redesign: Lead collaborative efforts with orthopedic surgeons, PAs, NPs, MAs, PTs, and administrative staff to analyze current workflows and redesign them to fully leverage technology, improve efficiency, and reduce administrative burden.
- Best Practice Standardization: Develop and implement standardized best practices for the use of clinical applications across all OCP sites, ensuring consistency and quality.
- Quality & Safety Enhancement: Utilize clinical applications to support and enhance patient safety initiatives, quality reporting (MIPS/MACRA), and evidence-based orthopedic care pathways.
- Change Management: Lead and champion change management processes associated with new technology implementations and workflow modifications, ensuring smooth transitions and staff buy-in.
Data Management, Analytics & Reporting:
- Data Governance: Establish and enforce robust data governance policies and procedures to ensure the accuracy, integrity, security, and accessibility of orthopedic clinical data.
