About the role

Responsibilities

 

Peraton is seeking a Software Engineer (Data Science) to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals supporting our public health data science customer. As a Software Engineer specializing in Public Health Data Science, you will play a pivotal role in developing software solutions that harness data to address public health challenges. You will collaborate with interdisciplinary teams of public health experts, data scientists, and software engineers to design, develop, and implement innovative software applications tailored to analyze, visualize, and interpret public health data.

 

What you will do:

  • Work with customer to design, develop, and maintain software applications and tools for processing, analyzing, and visualizing public health data.
  • Work with customer, users, and architects to ensure Cloud architectures align to organizational needs.
  • Integrate diverse datasets from various sources, for example health systems, governmental agencies, research institutions, and other relevant sources, ensuring data integrity and security.
  • Collaborate with data scientists to implement algorithms for predictive modeling, machine learning, and statistical analysis to extract insights from public health data.
  • Conduct thorough testing and debugging to ensure the reliability, accuracy, and security of software applications, adhering to best practices and industry standards.
  • Design, implement and maintain automated pipelines, optimizing deployment processes, and monitoring system performance enhancing reliability, security and scalability of our applications and services.
  • Manage both strategic cloud initiatives as well as immediate operational activities.
  • Ability to rapidly create secure environments for prototyping and Proof of Concept (PoC) development.
  • Ensures that cloud capabilities are leveraged to the fullest extent and available to large user bases.

Qualifications

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelors of Science with a minimum of 6 years’ experience OR  3 years with MS/MA. Additional years of experience maybe accepted in lieu of degree
  • Familiar with Agile and DevOps concepts and practices
  • Expert knowledge of Source Code Control Systems (Azure Repos, Git, GitHub)
  • At least 2 years of working experience implementing CI/CD pipelines for Azure Services using Azure DevOps
  • Working experience automating security testing and vulnerability scanning using Azure tools,Azure Monitor, Azure Log Analytics, and Azure Application Insights for monitoring and logging
  • Expert knowledge of build automation and Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment
  • Demonstrated experience in Microservices, Event Driven, Data Streaming, Big Data, Cloud solution architectures required
  • Working knowledge of Open API and OAuth
  • Working knowledge of, Databricks, Object Storage, ADLS, EventHubs
  • Knowledge of various Azure services such as Azure VMs, Azure App Service, Azure SQL Database, Azure Functions, ADF, Storage Accounts etc.
  • Knowledge and implementation experience of Event Driven Data Streaming architectures and design principles
  • Experience managing Databricks workspaces, deploy, configure, and maintain Databricks clusters, SQL warehouses to support Data processing and analytics workloads
  • Experience implementing best practices for data governance and security within the Azure Databricks environment
  • Knowledge of Terraform and ARM scripting for Azure cloud
  • Must have Scripting and automation experience using Shell / Perl / Python scripting
  • Must be a US Citizen or a Green Card Holder ( Permanent Resident of the US)
  • Must be able to obtain the required agency clearance

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with big data technologies and distributed computing frameworks (e.g., Hadoop, Spark)
  • Familiarity with cloud computing platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud Platform)
  • Knowledge of public health concepts, epidemiology, and healthcare systems
  • Experience with Agile development methodologies and DevOps practices
  • Demonstrated contributions to open-source projects or participation in relevant communities
