Job Summary:
The Anatomy Thread Leader at the Brigham Young University (BYU) School of Medicine will serve as a core faculty member in the Department of Preparatory Learning and is responsible for the design, coordination, and delivery of anatomy education across the pre-clerkship curriculum. The Thread Leader will collaborate closely with the Director of Phase 1 Curriculum, Organ System Course Directors, and fellow anatomy faculty to ensure that anatomical sciences are fully integrated into all relevant components of Phase 1. This faculty member will also help to ensure high-quality cadaver-based instruction and effective use of anatomical resources.
Required Degree:
Doctoral degree (PhD, or equivalent) in anatomical sciences, medical education, or a related biomedical field. The required degree must be completed by the start date.
Required Experience:
Demonstrated excellence in teaching human anatomy with cadaveric experience
Ability to work collaboratively with basic scientists and clinicians in a multidisciplinary curriculum
Demonstrated experience in research and scholarly activities related to anatomy, medical education, or related areas
Alignment with and commitment to the mission, values, and spiritual aims of Brigham Young University and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints
Preferred Experience:
Experience teaching anatomy in an integrated organ system-based medical curriculum
Familiarity with digital tools, 3D imaging, or ultrasound in anatomy education
Experience mentoring students in research or educational scholarship
Understanding of LCME accreditation standards related to anatomical sciences
Duties/Expectations:
Curriculum integration and teaching
Coordinate with course directors to embed anatomical learning objectives across all applicable Phase 1 courses
Deliver lectures, small-group instruction, and dissection lab sessions
Serve as a content expert and liaison for anatomy-related content in the curriculum
Collaborate on cadaveric dissection and related lab instruction
Advise and support students in their academic development as appropriate
Collaboration and curriculum development
Support the Director of Phase 1 Curriculum and Director of Anatomy Lab in planning and refining anatomy education
Design anatomy-related assessments
Participate in course and thread evaluation and curricular review processes
Assist in developing new tools and approaches for teaching anatomy
Service and scholarship
Participate in School of Medicine committees and curriculum governance
Contribute to scholarly activities related to medical education, anatomy, or clinical application
Mentor medical students in research and educational service
Engage in additional School of Medicine responsibilities, including committee work, faculty development, or administrative support as needed
May be assigned additional responsibilities within the School of Medicine, including participation in teaching, curriculum review, committee service, and other institutional initiatives
