We’re looking for a Software Engineer specializing in SQL Data Warehouse Development and Power BI to join our team in building Delta Dental’s Next Gen Applications & Products Suite—with a strong focus on scalable, data-driven solutions using Power BI and Snowflake. In this role, you’ll design, develop, and maintain structured datasets, apply ETL processes, and create efficient Power BI data models, including calculated columns and measures. Your work will directly support user-friendly, visually impactful dashboards and reports optimized for performance and accuracy.
This is a highly collaborative role where you’ll partner with product managers, engineers, and business stakeholders to deliver innovative, insight-driven solutions that support strategic decision-making.
- Performs as a key contributor in building and supporting innovative data solutions, including the development, support, and optimization of Power BI reporting platforms to address complex business use cases.
- Participates in architectural design and system analysis activities within SQL-based data warehousing and Power BI environments.
- Develops high-quality, production-ready Power BI data models using best-practice data structures, design patterns, and frameworks.
- Writes high-quality code, building secure and performant datasets and Power BI solutions from conception through production support.
- Produces clear and readable technical documentation for developed Power BI reporting solutions, ensuring thorough documentation practices.
- Tests and ensures quality of all deliverables utilizing test-driven development and quality practices within SQL and Power BI environments.
- Assists in executing business intelligence initiatives to transition reporting from legacy platforms to Power BI.
- Supports other Engineers through evaluation, design analysis, and integration efforts, aligning Power BI solutions with business requirements.
- Maintains knowledge and promotes compliance with policies and procedures, serving as a technical expert across Power BI governance, data access management, and self-service enablement.

- 2+ years of relevant professional experience with hands-on SQL dataset development, data modeling, and Power BI; 4+ years of experience with business intelligence solutions and Power BI development preferred.
- BS in Computer Science or equivalent technical field or relevant work experience preferred; equivalent work experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
- Experience designing and developing secure datasets and data reporting solutions.
- Demonstrated proficiency in building structured datasets, applying ETL processes, and developing data models in Power BI.
- Experience with Snowflake or other SQL-based data warehouse technologies preferred.
- Microsoft certifications related to Power BI preferred but not required.
- Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to clearly identify and present technical alternatives across SQL data warehousing and Power BI development projects.
- Ability to create and maintain detailed documentation supporting development, deployment, governance, and maintenance of Power BI solutions.
- Proven ability to present data effectively, facilitating clear understanding of findings and technical recommendations.
- Strong problem-solving skills using analytical approaches for dataset design, data modeling, and reporting.
- Knowledge of prevailing data warehousing and business intelligence best practices and design patterns.
- Detail-oriented, capable of managing multiple priorities in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
- Familiarity with agile methodologies and their application to business intelligence and data warehouse development.
Base Pay Information
The national base pay range at the end is a good-faith estimate of what Delta Dental may pay for new hires. Actual pay may vary based on Delta Dental’s assessment of the candidate’s knowledge, skills, abilities (KSAs), related experience, education, certifications and ability to meet required minimum job qualifications. Other factors impacting pay include prevailing wages in the work location and internal equity.
Pay Grade 21. $80,500 - $174,300
