Job Summary: The Staff Nurse is responsible for providing patient care in the most efficient, effective and safe manner and ensures that all methods of practice and work performance conform to established policies and procedures.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Conducts a nursing admission assessment on newly admitted patients.
- Reviews admission referrals and approves medical clearance for treatment.
- Performs a detox assessment (COWS/CIWA) on patients according to protocol.
- Consistently monitors patients’ status and records their progress.
- Identifies and prioritizes the needs of the patient.
- Transcribes physician orders.
- Performs and records waived testing.
- Administers medications and orders new medications as needed.
- Processes patient admissions and discharges.
- Participates in the continuing care planning process.
- Initiates and participates in coordination of care with members of the multidisciplinary chemical dependency treatment team.
- Monitors and documents patient behaviors, and emails relevant information to the appropriate staff.
- Supports treatment team recommendations.
- Provides patient education in a professional and competent manner.
- Performs chart reviews and updates medication records during the evening shift.
- Maintains clinical record in accordance with organizational requirements.
- Completes and submits an incident report when unusual circumstances occur.
- Provides change of shift report to oncoming shift.
- Updates the daily report log during the evening shift.
- Initiates and updates a 24-hour report sheet, noting discharges, irregular circumstances, and other details to facilitate information sharing between shifts.
- Assists in the orientation of new nurses.
- Follows infection control policies and procedures.
- Reports faulty equipment to the appropriate staff.
- Actively seeks out educational opportunities and participates in training as required.
- Shares clinical expertise and knowledge with colleagues to enhance professional growth and development.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education and Experience:
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
- Current licensure as a Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse in the State of Pennsylvania.
- Previous experience working as a nurse in behavioral healthcare or addiction services preferred.
- Current CPR/First Aid certification.
