Job Description

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

The Fremont Wafer Manufacturing team is seeking a highly motivated AI/Machine Learning intern to apply the-state-of-the-art AI and ML methodologies for challenging yield and quality problems in high volume semiconductor manufacturing.

  • Leverage big data analytics on datasets collected from processes, equipment, metrology, and testing across both frontend (wafer fab) and backend (slider fab) manufacturing.
  • Contribute to predictive modeling efforts aimed at improving yield and quality outcomes.

This internship offers hands-on exposure to semiconductor manufacturing while providing an opportunity to make a meaningful business impact at Western Digital.

Qualifications

REQUIRED

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Expected graduation between December 2025 and June 2026.
  • Hands-on experience with Python and machine learning frameworks such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, or Keras.
  • Knowledge of SAS/JMP scripting is a plus but not required.

SKILLS

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and self-motivation skills with a passion for tackling real-world engineering challenges.
  • Well-organized and capable of working independently, with strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Candidates who do not require relocation assistance to San Jose, CA, are preferred.
