The University of Louisville School of Medicine (UofL SOM), established in 1837, invites applications for a faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor in the Department of Emergency Medicine.
We are seeking a dynamic and dedicated academic emergency medicine residency-trained, board certified, or board eligible/ABEM/ABOEM physician for a full-time core faculty position with a demonstrated record of operational leadership, clinical excellence, medical education, and administrative experience. The successful candidate will play a key role in medical student and resident education and mentorship.
Key Responsibilities:
Overseeing the education and evaluation of medical students and residents in the Department of Emergency Medicine.
Teach and mentor medical students and residents in both clinical and didactic settings.
Participate in curriculum development and innovation in medical education for undergraduate and graduate medical education.
Provide high-quality patient care in the University of Louisville Hospital Emergency Department.
Engage in scholarly activity and departmental service as appropriate for rank.
Residency Core Faculty responsibilities, including resident mentorship and evaluation, interviewing and recruitment, didactic conference attendance and participation, and program evaluation
Qualifications:
Board certified or board eligible/ABEM/ABOEM physician in Emergency Medicine.
Eligibility for medical licensure in Kentucky.
Proven track record in education, leadership, and clinical practice.
Experience in academic program administration and medical student teaching is highly desirable.
Commitment to patient care, faculty development, and the educational mission of the department.
About Us: The University of Louisville Hospital, a 404-bed tertiary care facility, is the primary adult teaching hospital for UofL SOM. It is the region’s only Level 1 Adult Trauma Center, Comprehensive Stroke Center, and Adult Burn Unit. The Department of Emergency Medicine operates a state-of-the-art emergency department with 43 treatment areas spanning 30,000 sq. ft., caring for over 55,000 patients annually. We are opening a new 24-bed Emergency Department Observation Unit mid-August, 2025.
