The Impact You’ll Make in this Role
As a Product Steward/Regulatory Affairs Associate, you will assume responsibilities for conducting technical tasks leading to compliance with safety, health, and environmental regulations and corporate policies, and meeting the product stewardship goals of existing and new materials, products and technologies of major importance to the 3M Transportation & Energy Business Group. This role is intended to support the 3M Display & Electronics Interconnect products portfolio, including wire and cable, connectors and cable assemblies used in applications including data centers, servers, and factory automation. https://www.3m.com/3M/en_US/p/c/electronics-components/interconnect-products
Here, you will make an impact by:
Leading the regulatory compliance and Life Cycle Management activities for 3M Interconnect products during New Product Introduction (NPI) and Change Management Process (CMP).
Reviewing Bills of Materials (BOMs) for connectors and cable assemblies to identify regulated substances to ensure compliance with RoHS, REACH, and other environmental regulations.
Communicating with suppliers to obtain Material Declarations, material composition, Safety Data Sheets (SDS), compliance declarations, etc.
Maintaining accurate records in the Environmental Management System (EMS) for all raw materials, including wire, connectors, and insulation materials.
Responding to customer requests for compliance documentation, such as Regulatory Data Sheets (RDS), Article Information Sheets (AIS), and Declarations of Conformity.
Your Skills and Expertise
To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree or higher in a science or engineering discipline (completed and verified prior to start) from an accredited institution
Two (2) years of EHS, regulatory compliance, product stewardship and/or electronics/data center experience in a private, public, government or military environment
Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:
Bachelor’s degree or higher in Chemistry, Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering or Physics from an accredited university
Regulatory experience with cables, connectors, cable assemblies and/or electronics, and knowledge of REACH and RoHS requirements
Working knowledge of UL product certifications & CE marking requirements
Experience with 3M or similar systems and business processes relevant to Regulatory or Product Stewardship, e.g. Chemical Data Management System (CDMS), Global Product Lifecycle Management (PLM), Materials Compliance Manager (MCM), Life Cycle Management System (LCMS), IPC-1752A Material Declaration Management
Experience interpreting industry and global regulatory standards
Strong oral and written communication skills
High level of self-motivation, as well as being a self-starter

Work location: This role follows an on-site working model, requiring the employee to work at least four days a week at the 3M Business or Science Center Austin, TX or 3M Center in Maplewood, MN.
Travel: May include up to 10% primarily domestic travel
Relocation: May be authorized
Must be legally authorized to work in country of employment without sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g., H1B status).
