VP, Technical Accounting Advisory & Transaction Support
SUMMARY
Critical position within Corporate Accounting and Finance. Key responsibilities focus on US GAAP accounting policy analysis, accounting for both long- and short-duration insurance products with specific focus on long-duration, business combination accounting support for Business Development, and other special projects such as implementation of new FASB and IFRS pronouncements, Solvency II, Insurance Group regulatory initiatives, etc.
RELATIONSHIP AND SCOPE
The Vice President (VP) of Technical Accounting Advisory & Transaction Support will need to interact effectively with different levels of Management across all segments
MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead projects that will improve efficiency and performance of the Technical Accounting Advisory & Transaction Support group
- Work closely with the Life segment to ensure appropriate documentation and implementation of accounting policies and procedures
- Analyze technical accounting topics and propose conclusions
- Assist with the review and potential field testing of new FASB pronouncements
- Monitor the status, assess the impact to Chubb and assist with the implementation of FASB projects and standards
- Monitor IFRS implementation, Solvency II and Insurance Group regulatory initiatives
- Provide support for M&A transactions
- Assist in the review of quarterly and annual financial statements
QUALIFICATIONS
- Four-year degree in Business with a major in Accounting or Finance
- Big 4 audit manager experience, or equivalent, preferred
- CPA designation
- 12+ years of accounting or financial reporting experience
- 6+ years of above includes long-duration insurance experience, short-duration is also helpful
- Technical accounting aptitude required to research and write accounting position papers
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, including ability to summarize complex issues, particularly to non-financial partners
- Superior problem solving, analytical and modeling skills
- Ability to work effectively and influence across organizational areas and levels
- Strong leadership and project management skills
- Strong time management and organization skills; demonstrated agility in managing multiple priorities
- Microsoft Access and Excel experience required
- Experience with derivative accounting including hedge accounting strongly preferred
POSITION SPECIFIC QUALIFICATIONS:
During interview process, strong candidates will be asked to submit a writing sample to demonstrate their ability to research, comprehend and communicate on matters of a technical accounting nature. In particular, candidates are expected to submit a technical accounting memo that:
- addresses the salient facts of an accounting issue or transaction,
- cites the relevant accounting GAAP guidance
- provides an analysis of each item that relates to the overall position and reaches a clear conclusion
