Position Title: 2026-2027 Head Coach, Women’s Tennis – Full-Time
Head Coach – 12 Month (2373)
Position Details:
The Athletics Department at Cal State LA is seeking applications for a full-time Head Coach for the Women’s Tennis program for the 2026–2027 academic year. Reporting to the Executive Director of Athletics, the Head Coach is responsible for the overall leadership, administration, and competitive success of the NCAA Division II Women’s Tennis program competing in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA). Responsibilities include coaching, recruiting, scheduling, fiscal management, compliance oversight, fundraising, supervision of assistant coaches, and the academic and personal development of student-athletes. The Head Coach supports the mission and values of Cal State LA Athletics and promotes academic achievement, competitive excellence, integrity, equity, inclusion, leadership, and sportsmanship.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of NCAA Rules – This position requires a strong working knowledge and understanding of NCAA, CCAA, CSU, and university rules and regulations regarding compliance issues.
- Demonstrated ability to provide leadership and administrative oversight of an NCAA Division II intercollegiate women’s tennis program.
- Ability to recruit, coach, mentor, and develop student-athletes in a competitive collegiate tennis environment.
- Strong leadership, organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
- Experience with fiscal management, scheduling, travel coordination, and program administration.
- Commitment to fostering an inclusive, equitable, and student-centered environment that supports academic achievement and student success.
Major Job Duties (Essential Functions):
- Provide overall leadership and direction for the NCAA Division II Women’s Tennis program and independently plan, organize, and evaluate all program activities.
- Develop and implement training programs and assess student-athlete performance.
- Recruit academically and athletically qualified student-athletes.
- Foster academic success and holistic student development.
- Administer program operations including budgeting, scheduling, team travel, and equipment oversight.
- Ensure compliance with NCAA, conference, CSU, and university regulations.
- Supervise assistant and volunteer coaches.
- Represent the Women’s Tennis program through fundraising, alumni engagement, community outreach, and media interactions.
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution or an equivalent combination of education and professional experience is required. The candidate must possess progressively responsible collegiate coaching and/or head coaching experience, including demonstrated success in recruiting, student-athlete development, and competitive program advancement. Comprehensive knowledge of NCAA legislation and conference governance is required. The position requires effective communication skills, demonstrated fiscal management experience, the ability to supervise and mentor staff, and a commitment to fostering an inclusive and student-centered environment. Must possess a valid driver’s license and CPR, First Aid, and AED certification (or ability to obtain certification upon hire).
Preferred Qualifications: Preferred qualifications include prior head coaching experience at the NCAA level, with evidence of competitive success and conference or postseason participation. Experience within NCAA Division II is highly desirable. A master’s degree from an accredited institution is preferred. Experience in strategic recruiting, fundraising development, alumni engagement, and external relations within a collegiate athletics environment is desirable.
Position requires evening, weekend, holiday, and overnight travel for recruiting and competition. Duties may include demonstrating athletic techniques, transporting equipment, and working in office, tennis court, outdoor, and travel environments.
Salary:
Initial Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. The salary schedule information for the faculty lecturer: Academic Year-month Classification is available based on the following ranges: (per salary schedule 7/1/2024)
Full-time equivalent Salary Range: $9,883 - $13,378.
Anticipated salary is commensurate within education and experience.
