Kamehameha Schools, Hawai’i Campus is currently looking for a Dean of College, Career & Lahui Readiness.  Our ideal candidate will have a Master’s degree and at least 5 years of experience providing college & career counseling, and be knowledgeable in standardized testing, scholarships & financial aid.

Job Summary

A key member of the school's leadership team who will help drive towards KS' E Ola! learning outcomes and actively support the mission and vision of the school. Responsible for strategies that encourages students to explore college and career options in order to solidify post-secondary plans that successfully transition students after high school graduation. Collaborates and coordinates with faculty, administrators, and internal and external partners to create and implement strategies that promote career exploration, college admission and college completion. Oversees a team that helps students and their families leverage resources to effectively transition to post-secondary opportunities. Actively seek and create partnerships with external organizations and individual aligned to the high school’s college and career goals.   

Essential Responsibilities

College Preparation

  • Design and direct an innovative college/career pathway of support for students and their families.
  • Actively collaborates with Grade-level and Student Well-Being Deans and Counselors and/or College and Career Counselors to ensure students are provided with opportunities aligned to their personalized plans.
  • Design and manage ways to provide post-secondary counseling professional development and training based on culturally relevant and forward-thinking educational best practices and research; while facilitating ongoing communication and support among counselors and staff.
  • Lead and facilitate the Dual Credit Program.
  • Ensures alignment with school-wide goals.

Career Counseling

  • Organize internship opportunities with employers.  Managing the entire process from company engagement, logistics, student safety matters, etc. 
  • Works with community partners and internal resources to develop internship and employment opportunities for students.

Financial Aid Guidance

  • Oversees the student guidance process to apply for and access financial aid resources to pay for continuing education. 
  • Facilitate informational sessions to educate students and ‘ohana on the types of resources available. 

Administration

  • Administrate, train, and pursue effective and efficient use of software programs like Naviance in support of post-secondary success for faculty, staff, students, and families.
  • Contributes to school-wide planning and prioritizes time to accomplish goals. Provides input into strategic planning and identifies areas of ownership for self and direct reports.
  • Chairs or serves on various standing and ad hoc committees as needed to provide input and direction.
  • Supports data-driven decision-making and operations.
  • Manages and effectively delegates, collaborates and supervises including hiring, terminating, discipline, budget, performance management, professional development, scheduling, and work performed with a team of diverse individuals.
  • Drives the successful execution and achievement of strategic initiatives through leadership and management of program team.

Position Requirements

Minimum Qualifications - an equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute for the qualifications listed.

  • Master's degree in counseling, education, or related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of recent experience teaching or counseling students in a high school setting, or working in college admissions or student services counseling.
  • Minimum 1 year of supervisory or lead experience.
  • Knowledge of colleges, their academic programs, admission policies, and financial aid policies and procedures.
