SUMMARY

Install, repair and perform preventive maintenance of heating, ventilation, air conditioning and related systems at Charlotte Douglas International Airport. Majority of work is related to highly specialized PC Air units which cool aircraft while on the ground. Perform skilled repairs and preventive maintenance to heating and air conditioning equipment, both chilled water systems and direct expansion equipment.

Salary: $64,853.00 - $101,333.00 Commensurate with Experience

Responsibilities:

Install, repair and perform preventive maintenance of HVAC and related systems. Provide lead direction to other building maintenance workers. Perform semi-skilled to skilled repairs and preventive maintenance to plumbing and electrical equipment and other building systems as needed. Complete all associated paperwork.

Education & Experience:

High school graduate/GED required with five years of experience or associate degree and three years’ experience in a relevant work/industry/military/job specific experience that provides the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the essential job duties. NC State HVAC H2 or H3 license preferred. Performs other general maintenance work incidental to above duties, or necessary to keep buildings in working order, including basic electrical and plumbing.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Read and write sufficiently to complete related paperwork and read schematic designs and blueprints.

  • Must have Universal CFC certification. North Carolina State Contractor’s licenses: H1, H2 or H3 preferred.

  • Maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, the traveling public and tenants.

  • Follow oral and written instructions.

Physical Requirements:

Must be able to spend about 90% of time standing, bending, reaching, walking and driving.  The rest of the time includes a combination of sitting, twisting, kneeling, squatting, crawling, climbing, lifting, shoveling and carrying.  Typically, would not lift or carry more than 50 lbs., however, occasional assisted lifts to approximately 120 lbs., particularly when handling compressors.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must have Universal CFC certification.

  • High school graduate/GED required with five years of experience or associate degree and three years’ experience in a relevant work/industry/military/job specific experience.

General Information:

  • Works assigned shift, subject to 24-hour emergency call back to work for emergencies, urgent situations and inclement weather.  Shift subject to change.

  • Must be available for work for a rotating weekend and holiday duty schedule.

  • Valid driver’s license with no more than 6 points and ability to qualify for City driving permit.

  • Certain convictions will disqualify individuals from unescorted access privileges and therefore exclude from employment.
