Position Summary:  The Lead Nuclear Medicine Technologist will play a crucial role in performing PET/CT nuclear studies, ensuring compliance with all regulatory and accreditation requirements, and leading the operational aspects of the department. This role requires both hands-on imaging expertise and strong administrative abilities to oversee the department’s daily workflow, safety protocols, and long-term growth.

As the foundational member of this new service line, the technologist will work closely with neurologists, urologists, neurosurgeons, and radiologists to develop imaging protocols tailored to the specific needs of our patients. The candidate will also take the lead in securing and maintaining accreditation, ensuring that all imaging services meet the highest standards of quality and safety.

Essential Job Responsibilities

1. PET/CT Imaging & Patient Care

• Perform high-quality PET/CT scans, ensuring optimal image acquisition for accurate clinical interpretation.
• Administer and monitor radiopharmaceuticals, following strict safety guidelines and ensuring dose optimization.
• Provide a patient-centered approach, educating individuals on procedures, ensuring comfort, and addressing concerns.
• Collaborate with physicians and radiologists to develop and refine imaging protocols specific to neurological, urological, and neurosurgical conditions.
• Maintain, calibrate, and troubleshoot PET/CT equipment, ensuring optimal functionality and uptime.

2. Department Leadership & Operations

• Oversee the daily operations of the nuclear imaging department, ensuring an efficient and organized workflow.
• Develop and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) to ensure consistency in imaging, safety, and patient care.
• Monitor and manage radiopharmaceutical inventory, ordering supplies as needed and ensuring proper storage and disposal.
• As program grows train and mentor technologists, medical staff, and support personnel, ensuring high performance and adherence to best practices.
• Act as the department’s primary point of contact for troubleshooting, addressing technical issues, and improving processes.
• Collaborate with the administrative team to develop budgets, manage costs, and identify opportunities for department growth.

3. Accreditation & Compliance

• Lead the process to secure and maintain accreditation for the nuclear imaging service line (e.g., ACR, IAC, NRC, state regulatory bodies).
• Ensure full compliance with state, federal, and industry regulations, including those from the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), FDA, and OSHA.
• Develop and maintain a Quality Assurance (QA) program, conducting regular equipment performance assessments, audits, and documentation reviews.
• Collaborate with facility RSO to ensure adherence to radiation safety protocols.

4. Innovation & Program Development

• Stay up to date with emerging technologies and best practices in PET/CT imaging, integrating new methodologies to enhance diagnostic accuracy.
• Explore opportunities to expand imaging services, including new protocols for neurological disorders (e.g., epilepsy, Parkinson’s disease), oncological applications, and urological conditions.
