Position location: Western Region, preferred California
The Field Market Development Manager will cover a geographic territory consisting of seven (7) states in the Western Territory of the United States, representing Engineering Plastics (EP) in the Healthcare Market.
The incumbent leads and coordinates the market development activities for EP in the Healthcare Market. This includes the management of a project portfolio as a contributor through sales and development activities, the development of a project pipeline and specifications, along with ensuring a sufficient hand-off within the global sales organization, where appropriate.
Major Tasks and Responsibilities
- Initiate, develop, plan and implement new business development and marketing activities, increasing demand for EP Business Unit products and enhancing Covestro market visibility.
- Develop relationships and work closely with Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) engineers and designers (strategic influencers and decision makers), focusing on medical opportunities to gain specification of Covestro resins in their products.
- Work closely with Covestro and Distributor sales representatives to pull new specifications through to sales.
- Interface between OEMs and internal EP groups, e.g. technology and application development, and Industrial Marketing while utilizing Covestro resources to work with technical project / activity initiation (Excel / Accolade), Cloud for Customer (C4C) and Customer Relationship Management (CRM).
- Lead, Collaborate and at various times correspond with global counterparts within Covestro, for specifications leading to international sales.
- Resolve technical, commercial and project issues through frequent and direct contact with engineering and business functions, both within the OEMs, their suppliers (e.g. molders) and Covestro.
- Maintain up-to-date information regarding the contacts and Covestro business. (C4C, opportunities, risks, specifications, sales from specifications, key projects).
- Identifies and maps key decision makers in the customer's value chain; builds, maintains, and develops relationships with the key decision makers.
- Listens to and understands the account's current and future (and value chain partners) specific needs as well as its position in the value chain and industry.
- Communicates the account strategies and account plans with internal supportive functions and is responsible for achieving account target or KPIs.
- Coordinates cross functional activities with supportive functions for getting resources and connections with others initiatives without direct supervision of multiple stakeholders.
- Monitors and manages the customers project pipeline and the process of material specification.
- Shares insights and knowledge based on accounts to support and guide other functions to provide the right product offerings to customers further to Healthcare industries.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 6 years’ experience (at least 2 years of experience directly working with global teams focusing on strategic planning, business development, or related areas of responsibility); OR Master’s degree with a minimum of 4 years’ experience (at least 2 years of experience directly working with global teams focusing on strategic planning, business development, or related areas of responsibility)
- Commercial or technical background/experience with relevance to Plastics or Healthcare industry
Knowledge and Skills
- Well-developed technical and sales skills (Listening, Negotiating, Pricing, Contract knowledge etc..) are necessary to maintain credibility and respect at these large, multi-national companies.
- Thorough knowledge and understanding of Covestro's internal structure, personnel and capabilities
- Well-developed and proven skills related to critical thinking, organization, decisiveness, planning and ability to make decisions in a fast paced environment.
- Ability to communicate, collaborate and execute business decisions at all levels of management.
