Yachad, a division of The Orthodox Union, the nation’s largest Orthodox Jewish organization‚ supports individuals with intellectual, developmental, and learning disabilities. Yachad helps these individuals participate more fully in Jewish life and the broader society by providing educational, employment, and relationship opportunities.

The Orthodox Union (OU) is one of the largest Orthodox Jewish organizations in the United States. Founded in 1898, the OU supports a network of synagogues, youth programs, Jewish and Religious Zionist advocacy programs, programs for the disabled, localized religious study programs, and international units. The OU maintains a kosher certification service, whose circled U symbol, , is found on the labels of many kosher commercial and consumer food products.

 

 

What Yachad Does: 

 

  • Operates the largest stand-alone Jewish special education school system (IVDU) which currently operates 4 schools in New York educating 125 students annually.
  • Operates adult day programs currently in New York, New Jersey, and Maryland with a focus on helping individuals develop skills and opportunities to contribute to the community.
  • As a summer camp/program provider, provides more diverse opportunities for more participants than any Jewish provider of summer experiences for individuals with disabilities. These include inclusive camp experiences, vocational experiences, travel programs, vacation style programs, and include both single gender and co-educational options.
  • Operates 10 regions, serving over 20 communities providing social and relationship opportunities through weekday/evening programs, Shabbatonim, and much more. More than 1000 individuals participate in these programs annually.
  • Operates the first of its kind resource and referral service (REACH) that is data informed, and completely free. Families from around the world call to speak with a qualified professional and receive referrals from our vast database.
  • Engages youth, both school aged and college aged students in helping to desensitize attitudes towards individuals with disabilities, as well as encourage volunteerism and service in our youth. 

 

 

Position Summary:

 

The Assistant Director (AD) reports to the Managing Director of Regions (MD).

The AD, under the leadership of the MD, helps to set and implement a high-performance culture across Yachad regions that emphasizes passion, growth, and fun. The AD is responsible for implementing and supervising regional performance metrics.

The AD supervises regional directors as determined by the MD. The AD helps to ensure that programs are designed to meet the desired outcomes (inclusive or not inclusive, engaging and interactive), and are meeting the needs of the community being served (content, single gender vs. co-educational), and growing in the number of people being impacted.

The AD ensures that talent development and volunteer engagement are a central component to regional programming, engaging high school and college-aged students in volunteer and leadership roles as well as encouraging adult volunteerism where feasible.

The AD helps to create and implement a culture where regions are working collaboratively with other Yachad divisions.

The AD will oversee training for regional staff to better engage with the community, and will oversee large Shabbatonim, that bring regions, volunteers, and/or families toge
