Description
We are welcoming candidates for a STEM Education Specialist in the Department of Education at Gordon College. Gordon College invites applications for a full time, tenure track assistant or associate professor appointment teaching in undergraduate education. Position to begin August 20, 2018. Rank will be commensurate with experience.
The Education program at Gordon College is characterized by rigorous teacher preparation that is built upon scientifically based research including Universal Design for Learning. Principle responsibilities will include such courses as Early Childhood/Elementary Math Methods and Science Methods, including field based observations, Middle/Secondary Methods in Math and Science including field based observation, practicum observations (student teachers), designing and overseeing technology education. This STEM faculty member in education will be an integral team member in developing STEM education in the Gordon College teacher preparation programs.
The Department of Education at Gordon College is composed of four full-time and eleven part-time faculty. The program prepares teachers from early childhood through grade twelve with concentrations in English as a second language and special education. Local school districts recognize Gordon for its excellence in teacher preparation.
Graduates of the Department of Education at Gordon serve in charter, private and public schools as teachers, interventionists and specialists. Gordon College has a longstanding record for teachers entering the profession, with 100% of 2017 graduates teaching in their licensed area.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have:
- a doctorate, or appropriate terminal degree completed by the time of appointment (ABD will be considered)
- a passion for teaching STEM subjects and mentoring undergraduate preservice teachers
- a strong commitment to the Christian mission of the college
- collaborative skills that cross departmental and disciplinary boundaries
- desire to foster the development of well-prepared preservice teachers in STEM education with instructional skills that can creatively engage students
- commitment to integrating undergraduate research into their own research agenda
- full-time teaching experience
