Exemption Status: Non-Exempt

Salary Range: $27.20 - $37.69 

*As required under NYC Human Rights Law Int 1208-2018 - Salary range for this role when Hired for NYC Offices 

Position Summary

Responsible for accurately responding to and processing requests for the disclosure of protected health information (PHI) according to federal and State laws and in accordance with any judicial or administrative proceedings and WCM Policies and Procedures. Ensures patient privacy by maintaining confidentiality in all phases of medical record release. Promotes positive customer relationships through prompt and courteous service. 

Job Responsibilities

  • Calculates fees associated with each billable release of health information.
  • Participates in monthly reconciliation activities for ROI program. Monitors various systems/reports related to release of information.
  • Processes incoming and outgoing mail, faxes, and emails on a daily basis. Receives and responds to calls to the department and routes them appropriately. 
  • Determines records to be released by reviewing requester information in accordance with HIPAA, State & WCM policies and procedure. Obtains pertinent patient data from various sources, including electronic, off-site, or physical records that match request.
  • Coordinates the release of health information to patients, families, insurance companies, legal entities, etc.
  • Performs data entry of received internal & external requests for health information from the electronic medical record. Accurately logs & tracks requests and communication related to request & release of information.
  • Screens, reviews and evaluates the validity of each request for information.
  • Responds to internal and external inquiries regarding the process to request health information, the current status of request and the amount due. 
  • Provides training on Release of Information policies and procedures. Maintains up-to-date knowledge of policies, state, federal and WCM policies and procedures regarding release and disclosure of PHI.

Education

  • High School Diploma

Experience

  • Approximately 3 years of experience in a business or healthcare environment.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to work independently and maintain confidential, professional relationships with a variety of personnel.
  • Proven ability to achieve productivity standards.
  • Ability to multi-task and maintain excellent customer service.
  • Highly organized and detail oriented.
  • Experience in processing high volume requests in a fast paced environment.
