Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide leadership and direction to the various departments serving Exceptional Student Education (ESE) students and families.
- Coordinate services to families of students served in exceptional student education.
- Assist with building leadership capacity at local school campuses to support the learning of all students, including students with disabilities.
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal policies, rules, and laws to provide services to students with disabilities.
- Ensure equitable and effective staffing of services for students with disabilities.
- Assist with the management and response to concerns or complaints related to special education matters.
- Ensure instructional improvements and teacher effectiveness for the teaching and learning of special educators and special education leaders.
- Work closely with the school district’s attorney to ensure legal procedures are followed.
- Ensure strong, on-going communication with principals and district leaders.
- Maintain documentation and complete records required by state and federal laws and regulations.
- Keep abreast of federal and state laws and policies and ensure compliance.
- Attend meetings and trainings as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Master’s degree required. Georgia Educator certificate in Educational Leadership required.
- Minimum of five (5) years of school-based and/or district office leadership preferred.
- Ability to work well with teachers, school administrative teams, and district office leadership.
- Must possess a proven track record of building and maintaining strong professional relationships.
- Exceptional integrity, commitment to confidentiality, excellent character, and strong professional reputation.
- Ability to abide by the Georgia Professional Standards Code of Ethics for Educators.
- Must be regularly, predictably, and reliably at work. Must be able to be present at the physical worksite.
- Ability to perform tasks involving prolonged periods of standing, walking, and sitting.
- Ability to perform routine physical activities such as bending, lifting, and pushing/pulling up to 50 pounds.
- Vision, hearing, written, and verbal communication skills are essential factors in performing essential tasks.
