Job Description
AECOM is seeking a Senior Engineering Manager to be based in Sacramento, California.
JOB SUMMARY:
This individual shall support the Assistant Director of Engineering to coordinate Engineering Services with delivery branches and other functional branches to ensure engineering designs and construction align with the Client’s established engineering requirements. This includes coordinating the application of engineering policy and design management processes to ensure engineering matters are progressed to meet the Client’s requirements.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Supporting the Assistant Director of Engineering through liaison with other branches, consultants, and sub-consultants to coordinate an integrated approach for risk identification and management of challenges to engineering requirements.
- Supporting the Assistant Director of Engineering to establish the technical governance framework for the management of engineering clients across the program through coordination with other branches and third parties including existing rail operators.
- Coordinate an integrated approach to engineering activities to provide cross-functional support to the planning, development, procurement, design, and construction of the Client’s capital projects. These activities include preliminary engineering for environmental approval, preliminary engineering for procurement, alternative technical concepts, design, system integration, and railroad interfaces. Facilitate cross-functional support for engineering activity through technical integration hubs.
- Coordinate with delivery branches including Strategic Delivery, Infrastructure Delivery, and Rail and Operations Delivery to progress an integrated approach to verify that designs are integrated and compliant with Client engineering requirements.
- Coordinate cross-functional engineering reviews of maintenance, operations, and integration of civil and structural engineering elements in advance of procurement.
- Supporting the Assistant Director of Engineering on strategic matters to ensure timely and effective decision-making in relation to engineering matters.
- Assisting with the development, recommendation, and implementation of policies, as applicable, in relation to engineering management, engineering standards and technical requirements, infrastructure development, system development, design, and construction support including change management.
Qualifications
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- BA/BS + 10 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education including 2 years of leadership
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's Degree of Science Engineering
- 15+ years of experience in technical integration and delivery of complex railway projects and programs involving multiple stakeholders
- California registered Professional Engineer or similar internationally recognized professional status such as Chartered Engineer
- Record of accomplishment in senior roles in complex new major railway projects
- Able to demonstrate a high level of organizational ability, capable of pivoting and re-prioritizing to meet changing program needs and deadlines.
- Experience in inter-disciplinary coordination leading to formal safety and reliability acceptance.
- Engineering management experience in complex and large-scale rail projects or programs from planning through preliminary engineering, detail design, construction support, and coordination with system and O&M.
