Join our Sheltering Team!  We are looking for capable, compassionate people to support the unsheltered neighbors in our Woodburn community.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

This position will provide direct support to sheltering services for the homeless population at ARCHES shelters in Marion counties. Responsibilities include supporting daily operations, including cleaning and laundry services, clerical duties, data collection & entry, assisting clients with navigation to resources, answering client questions and other special projects as needed. In addition, The Site Assistant III will also be responsible for training and updating Site Assistants and volunteers on applicable policies and procedures and exercise strong decision-making skills while providing leadership when urgent matters arise while management is not available or on site.  There is one position and it is a graveyard shift. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High School diploma or General Education Degree (GED); Two years of work experience in a public or social services role; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Knowledge of/or experience working with the homeless, vulnerable or at-risk populations is preferred.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

  • Candidate must pass a comprehensive MWVCAA background screening prior to employment and pre-employment drug screen.
  • Driver qualifications are required for this position. Valid driver license insured vehicle available for use on the job, and a satisfactory drive record for the previous three years are required. 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITES

  • Ability to accept on-call work or trade shifts with short notice (for example, same day for a call-out) preferred but not required.
  • Must possess basic computer skills.
  • Effective interpersonal communication skills, in both written and oral form.
  • Demonstrates tact, diplomacy and empathy when communicating formally and informally with clients, staff and program partners.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES This job description is not intended to be all-inclusive. The employee will also perform other reasonably related business duties as assigned by immediate supervisor and other management as required.

  • Provides program support, such as cleaning, site upkeep, laundry and supportive services.
  • Provides client engagement and assistance, including answering the telephone, monitoring client and facility safety.
  • Works with support staff regarding follow-up to services, assisting with meal preparation and distribution.
  • Facilitates access to guest laundry and computers.
  • Opens and distributes incoming mail, handles outgoing mail.
  • Employs de-escalation techniques and makes quick decisions in response to guest or client incidents.
  • Provides support services for the programs offered through the ARCHES Project.
  • Assists with program operations including HMIS data entry for clients, follow-up with clients, assisting clients with navigation to resources, general data entry, and other special projects as needed.
  • Complies with all program policies and procedures.

SUPERVISORY RESPOSIBILITIES

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Close quarters, often with a public client population experiencing homelessness, substance use disorders, and/or severe and persistent mental illness, and/or unpredictable behavior.
  • Frequent interruptions and demands, frequent noise.
  • Shift options may vary between early morning, evening and nights.
  • Exposure to trash and potential biohazards.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential duties and responsibilities.

  • Requires the ability to communicate with others and respond to potential emergencies.
  • Requires frequent personal mobility between areas of the shelter and/or sites.
  • Regularly lift and/or move 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
