Reporting to the Senior Manager, Financial Risk Management (“FRM”), the Lead Analyst is a key member of the FRM Team. As a key member of our team, you'll play a crucial role in analyzing, assessing and developing strategy for mitigating risks across our diverse portfolio of commodity exposures. Along with the Senior Manager, FRM, you will work closely with internal stakeholders in manufacturing, feedstocks and energy, accounting, and capital budgeting to analyze risks, develop strategy and insight into managing those risks, and helping ensure compliance with our strong internal governance and controls framework. To be successful, you will possess a combination of quantitative, modeling, analytics and commercial skills necessary to provide insights that will help build custom solutions for managing risk. You will also assist the Senior Manager in developing reporting and monitoring dashboards to provide high quality actionable risk information to all of our internal stakeholders, including Senior Executives. You will be self-motivated, quick to learn new tools, adapt to new ideas, and willing to accept new responsibilities as the group and the organization grows.
 

A Day In The Life:

 

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop innovative risk management strategies tailored to the unique challenges of the global chemicals market to capture opportunities while managing exposure to risk.
  • Under the direction of the Senior Manager, undertake risk analysis related to identifying risk exposures, assessing instruments for managing exposures including effectiveness, and finally, preparing recommendations for risk management strategy implementation.
  • Participate in risk assessments related to significant capital projects, including utilizing numerical techniques like monte-carlo and other statistical analysis to assess key risks.
  • Harness the power of data analytics and modeling techniques to derive actionable insights, identifying emerging trends and opportunities for optimization within our commodities portfolio.
  • Where necessary, ensure that derivatives transactions are consistently and accurately captured in relevant trade management systems.
  • Partner with internal stakeholders in Accounting and Audit to ensure high quality and accurate financial reporting.
  • Participate in regular internal audit, compliance and business controls initiatives to evaluate and enhance the effectiveness of existing, controls, policies and desk procedures.
  • Prepare, review, analyze and provide periodic mark to market and other risk reporting, including developing enhancements to existing reporting in a continuous improvement environment.
  • Stay abreast of regulatory changes and compliance requirements impacting commodity trading, ensuring adherence to industry standards and mitigating regulatory risks.
  • Support, identify and assist in the implementation of process and systems improvements.

You Bring This Value:

 

 

  • Bachelors degree in Engineering, Finance, Economics, Statistics, or other quantitative field.
  • Minimum of five years of relevant experience.
  • Demonstrated expertise in quantitative analysis, statistics, and/or risk.
  • You have the ability to translate complex data into actionable insights and strategic recommendations.
  • You have a natural curiosity that drives your desire to be a lifelong learner.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • You thrive in a fast-paced, evolving environment, with the flexibility to pivot in response to rapidly-changing market dynamics. 
  • You understand risk and how to explain technical concepts and subject matter in a way that is easily understandable by non-technical personnel.
  • You can work under pressure, while retaining your attention to detail and drive for innovation.
  • You can identify opportunities for improvement including in tools, reports and processes.
  • Strong data analytics skills including advanced Excel skills, Power BI strongly desired.
