About the Team

We’re a lean but highly impactful People team focused on building an exceptional employee experience while supporting SmartAsset’s rapid growth. Because we operate in a fast-paced, multi-state, remote environment, each team member plays a critical role in driving both day-to-day operations and strategic initiatives. This role offers significant autonomy, with opportunities to independently own processes, contribute to high-visibility projects, and help shape the programs and policies that support our employees and our business.

About the Role

We’re seeking a proactive and experienced People Operations Generalist to take ownership of critical People Ops processes and help drive operational excellence. This role is designed for a professional with 4–5 years of HR or People Operations experience who thrives in fast-moving, high-growth environments. You’ll manage the full employee lifecycle with a high degree of independence — from onboarding and offboarding to compliance and HR systems — while balancing day-to-day administration with project-based initiatives.

You’ll succeed here if you bring a strong foundation in HR best practices and multi-state compliance, excellent time management skills, and a self-starter mindset. For the right candidate, this role offers significant opportunity for development through autonomy, exposure to diverse People projects, and the ability to build processes and programs from the ground up.

Responsibilities

  • Onboarding & Offboarding: Fully own the employee lifecycle processes, ensuring a seamless and compliant experience from pre-hire to exit.
  • Compliance & Policy Management: Ensure practices comply with federal and state regulations, including FLSA and multi-state employment laws. Support policy updates, communications, and audits.
  • Payroll & Benefits Administration: Partner with Total Rewards and Finance to manage payroll and benefits processes, troubleshoot employee inquiries, and ensure accuracy.
  • HR Systems & Data: Serve as a systems lead for our HR platforms, maintaining data integrity, driving workflow improvements, and leveraging data for decision-making.
  • People Analytics: Collect, analyze, and report on people metrics (e.g., turnover, engagement, compliance) to provide insights and support leadership decision-making.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with Recruiting, People Business Partners, IT, and managers to ensure operational excellence across the employee experience.
  • Projects & Initiatives: Contribute to initiatives such as HRIS transitions, compliance projects, and employee engagement or recognition programs.
  • Employee Experience: Serve as a trusted point of contact for employees, providing timely and thoughtful support across People Ops functions.

Qualifications

  • Experience: 4–5 years of HR or People Operations experience, with proven success supporting multi-state, remote workforces in high-growth or startup environments.
  • Compliance Knowledge: Solid understanding of HR best practices, FLSA, and multi-state compliance requirements.
  • Independent Ownership: Demonstrated ability to independently manage end-to-end processes and balance a high volume of administrative work with project-based initiatives.
  • Organizational Skills: Exceptional ability to prioritize, stay detail-oriented, and deliver results in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Systems & Data Fluency: Strong proficiency with HRIS platforms and comfort using data to inform decision-making. (Experience with PEOs and HR system transitions is a plus.)
