About the role

The Director, Global Market Research CNS at Otsuka Pharmaceuticals supports commercial insight needs for primarily late-stage CNS assets from Discovery to Launch and LCM globally. The GMR Director will be responsible for leading both primary and secondary market research and competitive intelligence along with other commercial insight generation for CNS assets.

The position is part of the GMMA organization. This role reports to the Senior Director, Global Market Research & Competitive Intelligence and will collaborate directly with the CNS Global Marketing team and cross-functional groups and regional affiliates. The Director of CNS Global Market Research will be an active contributor to the Global Marketing Market Access (GMMA) Group.

The Director position will lead the design, execution, and management of market research projects for late-stage assets (i.e. Ulotaront, Centanafadine, CT-152, SEP-135, Rexulti and Abilify Franchise). The Director is a market research subject matter expert and contributes to the to the annual Global Asset Planning. The Director is expected to select and manage market research agencies and to answer key business questions that drive business success. Additionally, the Director will integrate multiple sources of information/insights to support late-stage commercial teams in shaping brand development and strategy, including business cases, patient journey, brand positioning and customer needs assessment. The Director position requires strategic thinking, strong collaboration, and communication with the GMMA team and partnering with relevant functions and regions. The Director will make sure there is a consistent approach to late-stage assets in core branding deliverables from a market research approach (such as Segmentation, Positioning, Messaging, Creative).

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Autonomous approach to leading market research projects and competitive intelligence for an asset.
  • Demonstrated excellence in executing market research projects and competitive intelligence initiatives as well as managing team meetings, agency partners and contract workers.
  • Broad and deep knowledge of qualitative and quantitative market research tools and techniques
  • Demonstrated competency in going beyond market research results and utilizing competitive intelligence information to provide deep customer insights that drive business success
  • Proven track record of applying cutting-edge market research tools/techniques and competitive intelligence to positively influence business decision making and product development
  • Demonstrated experience and expertise integrating primary and secondary data into synthesized information and insights
  • Proven track record of applying complex findings (e.g., market research and competitive intelligence) to make a positive impact on brand development and commercialization strategy
  • Oversee and deliver primary, secondary, and internal competitive intelligence in an effective and compelling manner
  • Propose innovative, new ideas to increase the value/impact of competitive intelligence insights
  • Unwavering commitment to teamwork and collaboration within and across functions
  • Proactively takes ownership of building internal relationships with colleagues and mastering cultural standards.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, including active listening and communicating with regional affiliates in Canada, Europe and Asian regions.

  • Strong analytical skills and insights generation expertise Knowledge of and experience working with secondary data.
  • Ability to think creatively and innovatively in solving complex business problems and to apply solutions to drive actionable results.
  • Represent the GMMA function and associated interests in various business meetings and forums.
  • Proven knowledge of the clinical development process and product lifecycle from early stage through product launch, maturity and loss of exclusivity.
  • Affinity for scientific information as well as working knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Knowledge of and experience managing international market research programs and competitive intelligence initiatives
  • Experience selecting, managing and developing market research agencies to become trusted business partners; to provide exceptional insights; and to communicate clear and cogent stories that drive business value.

  • Minimum of 10 years' experience in market research leadership role in pharmaceutical industry or related profession.
