Pay Range

$148,920 - $188,880 Annually

Job Description

We have an opening for a Sustainment Project Execution Engineer to provide independent technical and operational support for projects within the NIF Sustainment portfolio in the National Ignition and Photon Science Directorate.  You will be responsible for project scheduling, Earned Value (EV) reporting, risk matrix management, milestone tracking, and status reporting, contributing to the achievement of organizational goals and objectives through effective project execution. This position is in the Laser Systems Engineering and Operations (LSEO) Division, within the Engineering Directorate.

In this role, you will

  • Perform, maintain, review, and advise on the production of complex analyses of cost/schedule/earned value data for multiple concurrent projects using advanced level knowledge of quantitative methods and concepts.
  • Use statistical tools to analyze metrics, evaluate results, and recommend conclusions for project team consideration, while ensuring the integrity of project controls data and compliance with processes, procedures, and sponsor requirements.
  • Collaborate with project managers to plan, develop, implement, and maintain and status schedules for each Sustainment project. Utilize the EV Lite tool to prepare monthly Earned Value status and reporting for assigned projects.
  • Manage reporting for Minor Construction (MC) and Major Item of Equipment (MIE) projects, ensuring timely and accurate updates.
  • Prepare and submit monthly status reports for NIF Sustainment, supporting both NIF and NNSA requirements.
  • Update and maintain project risk registers, ensuring risks are accurately tracked and mitigated.
  • Track and status NIF Level 2 milestones and associated deliverable submissions.
  • Monitor and report on project baseline variances and Baseline Change Requests across the Sustainment portfolio.
  • Apply knowledge and experience to provide training, guidance, and informal mentoring to junior colleagues on processes for developing data, earned value management tools and concepts, and other project controls specific practices as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Ability to secure and maintain a U.S. DOE Q-level security clearance which requires U.S. citizenship.
  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant technical discipline or the equivalent combination of education and related experience.
  • Advanced knowledge of project management concepts: project scope, budget, cost estimating, planning, scheduling, and reporting tools.
  • Significant experience interpretating, developing, implementing, and applying technical and operational principles and in-depth analysis to solve complex problems.
  • Advanced knowledge and significant experience with Earned Value Management (EVM) tools and methodologies.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform work on multiple projects simultaneously, work independently, determine objectives, prioritize tasks, and develop creative solutions and new methods/approaches within broadly defined policies and practices.
  • Significant experience effectively coordinating across organizational lines and providing training, guidance, and mentoring to junior colleagues.
  • Advanced verbal and written communication skills necessary to effectively collaborate in a team environment and prepare and present detailed and complicated financial and technical information to management, stakeholders, and various audiences.

Qualifications We Desire

  • Experience working in a federally funded research and development center or similar environment.
