About the role

Seeking a self-starter, highly motivated, qualified professional with a strong work ethic that will be responsible for leading the Americas Professional Liability single risk strategy for SCOR Specialty Insurance.  This is a recent start-up business unit therefore candidates should possess a broad skillset to contribute and lead in a variety of disciplines including underwriting, relationship management, and policy forms. Must be team player and have effective communication and project management skills to work with all the internal stakeholders (claims, actuarial, legal, Underwriting Management, Group Risk Management and Senior Management) that have a vested interest in this highly visible line of business.

Products underwritten currently in the portfolio are:

Professional liability (E&O) for Construction (Contractors & Engineers) annuals and SPPI, Lawyers, Accountants, Media, Technology E&O & Miscellaneous Professions e.g. Actuaries, Real Estate professionals, Inspection Firms etc. The business is focussed on Excess placements involving both lead & follow positions.

We are looking for someone to particularly focus on the development of the non-Lawyers segment of the portfolio. The successful candidate would be able to demonstrate a track record of profitability in this area,and able to produce a defined business plan.

Key duties and responsibilities

  • Mange all aspects of the day-to-day single risk underwriting operations in the Americas, while successfully executing the single risk Professional Liability strategy
  • Achieve and exceed the financial targets (profitability, expense, premium) for this line of business while also making a positive contribution to the SCOR Specialty Insurance Americas results.
  • Assist the GSL in growing and refining the underwriting methodology for Professional Liability and related product lines in the Americas.
  • Develop policy forms and work with the insurance operations filing team on compliance with all State requirements for admitted or non-admitted insurance.
  • Operate within delegated authority levels on assignment of higher technical complexity and coordination.
  • Develop relationships with distribution partners throughout the Americas and proactively work with them to seek new business opportunities on targeted companies.
  • Collaborate with other SCOR Specialty underwriters in the Americas to provide comprehensive “all lines” whole account solutions where possible.
  • Work and coordinate with the E&O teams in London and Paris.
  • Proactively manage the portfolio and make any necessary adjustments in the industry mix, attachment points and limits to ensure a long term, profitable book of business.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with distributors (brokers) in support of business retention and acquisition.
  • Keeps abreast of legal, regulatory and industry trends that may impact this line of business.

Required experience & competencies

  • 10+ years of successful underwriting of Professional Liability and related lines of business
  • Strong relationship with distribution partners throughout the USA
  • Accountability, team-oriented, strong business acumen, communication skills (oral & written), self-starter, flexibility, time management, strong ethics
  • As the business grows, capacity to lead and motivate others, excellent written and interpersonal communication skills, and capacity for strategic planning
  • Insurance Industry designations (RPLU, etc.) desired but not required

Required Education 

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience
  • MBA is desired but not required.
