  • Establish architectural principles, standards, and guardrails aligned with product and technology strategy.
  • Lead cross-program electrical and software architectural consistency and technical decision-making.
  • Resolve cross-domain technical trade-offs in collaboration with mechanical engineering and hardware development.

Platform Roadmap and Modernization

  • Define and maintain a roadmap for electronic and software platforms.
  • Identify and prioritize technical debt across EE and software domains.
  • Develop modernization strategies that balance innovation, regulatory requirements, risk, and delivery constraints.

  • Scale engineering capability through delegation, architectural empowerment, and modern engineering practices.
  • Maintain periodic technical engagement to inform leadership decisions without becoming a bottleneck to execution.

Design Control and QMSR Alignment

  • Own EE and software-related DDF/DHF remediation to align with lean QMSR expectations under ISO 13485.
  • Ensure compliant but lean traceability between system architecture decisions, design inputs, risks, and verification/validation artifacts.
  • Partner with Hardware Development and Quality/Regulatory to modernize SW design control practices while minimizing unnecessary documentation burden.
  • Support risk management and design control activities in regulated product development.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner with Hardware Development to define system partitioning and interface boundaries.
  • Collaborate with Program Management to ensure architectural risks and trade-offs are visible in program plans and by key cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Engage with Product Support Engineering to ensure field learnings inform future system architecture.
  • Support VP R&D in architectural resolution when system-level decisions impact product strategy.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Directly manages engineering managers and senior technical leaders within electrical engineering, firmware, and software.
  • Indirectly leads multidisciplinary engineering teams through architectural leadership and technical governance.
  • Responsible for performance management, talent development, and organizational scaling within respective domain.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Required Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field required.
  • Minimum of 12 years of experience in electrical engineering, software engineering, firmware, or systems engineering.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience leading multidisciplinary engineering teams, including managers and senior technical staff.
  • Experience defining and governing system architecture in complex hardware–software products.
