The Role:

General Motors is now hiring for an IT Software Engineering Lead to support our FCHS (Finance, Human Resources, and Corporate Systems) team. This is a technical leadership opportunity within our Global IT Organization. This person will need to work with teams who set the standards in Software Engineering in our Software & Services (S&S) organization to incorporate into the FHCS org.

As the Lead Software Engineer within the Finance, Human Resources, and Corporate Systems IT organization, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the technological landscape of our advanced solutions. Positioned at the convergence of innovation and reliability, you will provide technical direction, guiding the development and progression of full stack software engineers. Reporting directly to the Head of Software Engineering, your responsibilities will include providing strategic direction, providing subject matter expertise regarding business practices and software engineering best practices. You will interact with advocates from multiple organizations to establish best practices in Software Engineering in GM IT. Additionally, your role will involve active participation in all aspect of the software development life cycle, including designing, coding, conducting code reviews, and testing systems.

What You'll Do (Responsibilities):

  • Leads, guides and directs a large group of technical employees responsible for engineering deliverables in support of the organization's business objectives.
  • Manages engineering execution of team as related to the Vehicle Development Process deliverables.
  • Provides technical leadership to work team. Interacts and collaborates with many teams cross-functionally.
  • Leads team on new methods or initiatives without defined procedures.
  • Leads team to meet targets.
  • Reviews and approves engineering documentation, e.g. requirements, documents.

Additional Job Description

What You'll Need (Required Qualifications):

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent work experience
  • 8+ years of experience in web application, services development, mobile development, native and preferably React Native
  • Expertise in Java, Quarkus or Spring Boot including front-end technologies like ReactJS and micro-frontends.
  • 8+ years of experience contributing to the architecture, documentation and design of new and existing systems (architecture, design patterns, reliability, and scaling)
  • Experience working with multi-tier production software systems utilizing HTTP APIs (REST, GraphQL) and backend datastores (PostgreSQL, DynamoDB, Redis, Elasticsearch)
  • Demonstrated ability to understand the tech stack, debug code and tests
  • Enthusiastic about the opportunity of impacting the engineering culture from the bottom up

What will give you a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications):

  • Expertise in C#, Spring boot and Angular
  • Proven experience in a technical role providing direction to software development teams in the delivery of complex projects
  • Deep understanding of software architecture and design principles, with a focus on building scalable and maintainable systems
  • Experience with distributed systems, microservices architecture, and cloud-based solutions
  • Strong knowledge of software development best practices, including code reviews, testing, and CI/CD pipelines
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Knowledge of General Motor’s Finance, Human Resources and Corporate IT Systems
