About the role

Cambridge Mobile Telematics (CMT) is the world’s largest telematics service provider. Its mission is to make the world’s roads and drivers safer. The company’s AI-driven platform, DriveWell Fusion®, gathers sensor data from millions of IoT devices — including smartphones, proprietary Tags, connected vehicles, dashcams, and third-party devices — and fuses them with contextual data to create a unified view of vehicle and driver behavior. Auto insurers, automakers, commercial mobility companies, and the public sector use insights from CMT’s platform to power risk assessment, safety, claims, and driver improvement programs. Headquartered in Cambridge, MA, with offices in Budapest, Chennai, Seattle, Tokyo, and Zagreb, CMT measures and protects tens of millions of drivers across the world every day.

CMT is seeking a collaborative, product-oriented Sr Manager of Engineering to lead our Cloud Infrastructure team. This team builds and evolves CMT’s foundational platform services, delivering a robust, secure, and scalable foundation that powers all of our telematics products. You’ll partner closely with cross-functional engineering and product leaders across the company to define and drive the team's technical roadmap.

Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Leadership: Set the technical vision and strategy for the engineering team, ensuring it aligns with the company's business goal, maintaining the reliability and scalability of the underlying engineering platform.
  • Team Management and Development: Hire, mentor, and manage a team. This includes performance reviews, developing career plans, and fostering a culture of continuous learning and growth.
  • Technical Oversight: Oversee the technology stack, including backend services and databases and guide key architectural decisions, ensuring scalability, performance, and security across all systems.
  • Quality and Reliability: Ensure the delivery of high-quality, reliable products is a core responsibility. This includes setting standards for code quality, system uptime, and incident response protocols.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with SRE and product engineering managers across all business units to define requirements, prioritize features, and ensure the engineering team is building the right things efficiently.
  • Communication: Act as a key communicator, reporting on engineering progress to executive leadership and stakeholders, while also ensuring clear communication within the engineering team.
  • Process Improvement: Continuously refine SDLC practices, implementing Agile, CI/CD, and testing best practices to optimize delivery velocity and quality.
  • Risk Management: Proactively identify and mitigate technical risks, including security vulnerabilities, scalability constraints, and technical debt to ensure long-term platform stability.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • 10+ years of experience in software development, with at least 5 years in a leadership or management role, preferably in backend development.
  • Strong understanding of key computer science concepts, including knowledge of one or more common programming languages, e.g. Python, Java, Go, Swift, Kotlin, etc.
  • Demonstrated experience working cross-functionally with engineering management, product management, data science, and customer facing teams.
  • Demonstrated experience building and developing an engineering team and/or organization.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to lead a team in resolving complex technical challenges.
  • Exceptional communication and leadership skills, fostering clarity, trust, and accountability.
  • Knowledge of telematics, automotive technology, or connected devices (IoT) is a plus.

Nice to Have:

  • Hands-on familiarity with cloud-native architectures (e.g., AWS, GCP, or Azure), containerization (Kubernetes, Docker), and distributed systems.
  • Track record of improving developer productivity through CI/CD, observability, or internal developer platform initiatives.
  • Experience managing technical transitions such as monolith-to-microservices, cloud migration, or major data store rearchitecture.
  • Exposure to real-time data processing, streaming technologies (Kafka, Flink, Spark), or telemetry data pipelines.
  • Deep understanding of security, compliance, and privacy best practices for enterprise or regulated environments.

Compensation and Benefits:

  • Fair and competitive salary based on skills and experience, and annual performance bonus
