The Manager of Cloud Engineering will be responsible for leading the transformation of traditional infrastructure operations into a modern Infrastructure-as-a-Platform model using Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) principles. This role will enable and upskill the engineering organization to adopt platform engineering practices while ensuring alignment with architectural standards and enterprise cloud-first strategies.

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership & People Management:

  • Mentor and guide a team of infrastructure engineers through the transition to platform engineering roles.
  • Foster a culture of continuous learning, cloud-native thinking, and automation-first mindset.
  • Set clear goals and development plans to help team members gain proficiency in PaaS, IaC, and cloud services.
  • Act as a coach to support emotional and professional adaptability during the transformation.

Strategy & Transformation:

  • Lead the evolution from traditional infrastructure delivery to Infrastructure as a Platform.
  • Collaborate with architecture and cloud teams to define and implement the PaaS operating model.
  • Drive standardization, automation, and reusability across compute, storage, network, and middleware layers.
  • Promote self-service and DevOps-friendly platforms to enhance speed, scalability, and user experience.

Cloud & Technical Oversight:

  • Work closely with the Application and Architecture teams to ensure alignment with enterprise AWS cloud strategy.
  • Guide adoption of IaC tools (e.g., Terraform, CloudFormation) and cloud-native services.
  • Ensure operational excellence, security, and compliance across all platform components.
  • Monitor performance and continuously improve reliability, scalability, and cost-efficiency of the platform

FinOps & Cloud Cost Management

  • Apply AWS FinOps principles to manage and optimize cloud spend across infrastructure services.
  • Implement cost tracking, tagging, budgeting, and reporting mechanisms aligned with engineering initiatives.
  • Proactively identify and remediate cost inefficiencies in AWS usage (e.g., rightsizing, reserved instances, savings plans).
  • Educate the team on cloud cost awareness and embed cost accountability into engineering practices.

Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Act as a bridge between engineering teams and architecture, security, DevOps, and application teams.
  • Communicate progress, risks, and roadblocks effectively to senior leadership.
  • Align infrastructure platform capabilities with business and developer needs.

Qualifications:
