Derailment Manager

Description

The Derailment Manager is responsible for planning, leading, organizing, and overall management of mechanical department services assigned to this position with direction from the Derailment/Mechanical Superintendent.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• · Lead the mechanical department services assigned to this position.
• · On call schedule available to respond to our customers’ needs. This position responds and directly manages the work in the field.
• · Perform operational planning and decision making to ensure service is provided to the customer to fully meet their needs. 
• · Lead the safety process, set expectations for working safely, and ensure employees have and use the required PPE for their assignment. Inspect rigging, ensure correct rigging is used, and remove damaged rigging from service.
• · Coordinate manpower to ensure vacancies are filled, vacation coverage, and unexpected vacancies that occur.
• · Oversee training of new employees, annual training is completed in a timely manner, and develop/adjust training guidelines for positions as needed.
• · Build relationships with customers and stakeholders.
• · Respond to accidents/emergency situations as necessary and coordinate associated activities.
• · Handle discipline as needed to develop employees according to company policy.
• · Ensure vehicles and equipment are serviced and maintained as required.
• · Control costs and spending within your area of responsibility and in line with your budget.
• · Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

 QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. • · A thorough working knowledge and experience in railroad derailment/mechanical work or the equivalent experience in construction.
• · A thorough knowledge of mechanical activities, materials, and equipment used for the Railroad.
• · Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Office suite.
• · Detail oriented and organized.
• · Strong problem-solving ability.
• · Must possess strong oral and written communication skills.
• · Ability to follow complex directions.
• · Must be able to work irregular hours, be able to be called back in the event of an emergency, and travel as needed to support the business.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:· Minimum of two (2) years of experience railroad mechanical/derailment services or related construction/equipment work.· Experience in leading a team, group, or crew as a foreman or manager is preferred.
