Job Description
We have an opening for an IT Business Systems Analyst Intern supporting the Enterprise Service Management Office (eSMO) within the Livermore Information Technology (LivIT) Program. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in analyzing business processes, identifying areas for improvement, and collaborating with IT teams to document effective solutions. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical skills and excellent communication abilities.
In this role you will
- Conduct research on industry trends and best practices to support project initiatives.
- Create and maintain documentation, including process flows, user guides, and training materials.
- Analyze and interpret data to identify trends, issues, and opportunities for business process improvements.
- Gather and document business requirements through customer interviews, surveys, and workshops.
- Collaborate with IT teams to develop and design technology solutions that meet business needs.
- Assist in user acceptance testing (UAT) to ensure technology solutions developed meet business requirements.
- Assist in evaluating new tools and software solutions.
- Propose recommendations to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
- Attend meetings and contribute to discussions regarding project status and updates.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Must be eligible to access the Laboratory in compliance with Section 3112 of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). See Additional Information section below for details.
- Must be a college or university student in good standing at an accredited institution with a graduate degree in information systems, Computing Science, Communications, or related field.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with strong attention to detail, demonstrated through applied math coursework, analysis in R/MATLAB/Python, careful review of computational outputs, and supporting 20+ students weekly with R Studio troubleshooting, data analysis, and statistical modeling.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to clearly explain complex quantitative ideas and complex mathematical/statistical concepts in one-on-one and group settings.
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines, evidenced by managing recurring weekly student support, maintaining structured datasets (Excel) for 100+ soil samples, and collecting, validating, and organizing survey data from 200+ patients.
- Ability to think creatively and adapt to changing requirements, proven through supporting diverse student questions and troubleshooting varied R Studio workflows.
- Ability to present, summarize, and communicate concepts, findings, and recommendations clearly and effectively.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
Pay Range
$6,752 - $8,201 Monthly
This position is under a step structure. Please note that the step placement is determined by your most recent completed academic year.

Security Clearance
This position requires either no security clearance, or a Department of Energy (DOE) L-level or Q-level clearance depending on the particular assignment.
