POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the general direction of the Manager, Medical Imaging Services and the immediate supervisor, performs responsibilities in a professional manner not requiring constant supervision. Assumes responsibility for designated areas and assists with procedures. The Assistant is an unlicensed individual who is trained to perform clerical tasks, routine medical tasks and procedural assistance under direct supervision of a licensed physician or designated mid-level provider in an acute care setting. They assist the medical providers and may perform within the scope of practice to include; placing patients in exam rooms, collect and record patient data and prepare patients for clinician evaluation. The Assistant will frequently be required to apply and remove dressings, set up sterile trays, participate in invasive procedures and other similar duties, under the direction of the licensed medical provider.
EDUCATION / TRAINING / EXPERIENCE:
Minimum:
- One (1) year recent hospital experience in the capacity of a support position in a clinical area, or Graduate of an accredited Certified Medical Assistant course, or has successfully completed Enloe Health's hospital based Surgical Technologist Training Program
Desired:
- Certification as a Medical Assistant or Surgical Technologist or equivalent.
- Previous medical experience working in a sterile aseptic environment.
LICENSES / CERTIFICATIONS:
Minimum:
- Current BLS Certification.
- Current Trophon EPR online certificate of completion. (dept tracked)
- Specimen Handling Competency (dept tracked, within 3 months of hire)
SKILLS / KNOWLEDGE / ABILITIES:
Working knowledge of medical terminology and anatomy. Knowledge of computer applications required. Proficiency utilizing PACS. Knowledge of filing systems. Must be able to follow instructions, work quickly and accurately in a fast-paced environment. Ability to work with minimal supervision. Analytical and grammatical skills are necessary to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing. Organizational and multi-tasking skills are essential. Must have the ability to work in a demanding environment while remaining calm, efficient and focused. Must be able to fulfill the essential functions of the position. Must be able to interact professionally and effectively communicate with physicians, staff, patients, and the public. Must show sensitivity for the patient and their family and maintain strict confidentiality.
