Job Summary:

The Assured and Adequate Water Supply (AAWS) Intern will have a unique opportunity to be a key member of the AAWS Team and contribute to addressing the problem of limited groundwater supplies in Arizona. The AAWS programs evaluate the availability of a 100-year water supply, considering current and committed demand as well as growth projections. The program helps sustain the state’s economic health by preserving groundwater resources and promoting long-term water supply planning.

This position may offer the ability to work remotely, within Arizona, based upon the department's business needs and continual meeting of expected performance measures.

Job Duties:

• Assist in analyzing/reviewing a submitted hydro-modeling application. This includes exposure to GMS, MODFLOW, and related programming.
• Assist with the file management, record keeping, and data management aspects of the section. This includes exposure to the AAWS database, Wells 55, and various types of AAWS applications.
• Collaborate with legal staff, hydrogeologists, and other water resources professionals to better understand the designation of assured and adequate water supply.
• A deep dive or broad overview of any of the above duties shall depend on the candidate’s interest and background.
• Other duties as assigned.

This position has the flexibility to telework all but two days a week and allows a healthy work-life balance

Schedule: Hours will vary from 20 hours per week up to 40 hours per week. A hybrid work schedule (some work in the office and some work from home) is available for this position.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

Desired Qualifications:

• An analytical mindset with attention to detail.
• Ability to analyze and interpret remote sensing data, aerial imagery, and topographic maps.
• Strong communication, and organizational skills.
• Desire to learn and be part of a fast-paced group dynamic.
• Ability to use Microsoft Excel and Word.
• Familiarity with information sources, research methods, and techniques utilized in water resources.

Selective Preference(s):

PowerPoint presentation experience.

Pre-Employment Requirements:

Candidates must be enrolled in school and pursing a degree in Hydrology, Geology, or related field.
